A very bright spot for Emery, however, was in Rebounding. Prior to the opening game, Coach Nelson said that a big concern going into the season was his teams ability to rebound. But against Richfield, Emery pulled down 29 rebounds compared to just 14 for the Cats. I feel good about that, but our defense really was bad. They were hitting from all over the court, but we still could have tightened out defense, he said. The coach was also generally pleased with the offense of the Spartans. Senior guard Blaine Peterson led the team with 15 points despite spending much of the game on the bench with foul problems. Jeff Thomas and Terry Thomas each added nine points, and Thomas was . , responsible for 14 rebounds. Also scoring were Ryan Baker with seven in a limited role, David Brown with six points and five rebounds, Ryan Young with five points, Leamaster and David and Stewart Albrecht with two points each. Emery trailed Richfield by P just four points at the end of the and then fell first period, to a 12 point deficit at the half, By the end of the third period, the Spartans remained 4 12 down at as the coach with different working began combinations on the floor. I think were capable of beating Richfield, the coach said. Well have to hit our free throws and play better defense to do it though. The Emery JV also lost to Richfield. Emery led by one point with just 30 seconds left, but the coach said the team fell Albrecht, apart and lost a sophomore, was the outstanding player, the coach said, finishing with a remarkable seven assists and seven points. Eric Wells was the leading scorer with 14 while Bobby Grant added 12. The game against East Carbon this week is somewhat of a grudge match since the team and second place finisher at state last year knocked off Emery a year ago. It was one of the games the coach thought Emery should have won. Well be ready. Were not looking past East Carbon, he said, adding that he is hoping for a better defensive game from Emery. 18-1- i 4 - 4, ! 36-2- 8. f 56-4- 4 I i J t f 47-4- 2. 4 t 4 i i A Phyllis Walters of the Outlaws attempt a block.
