Show 6A Wednesday, November 23, 1983 Emery County Progress Temple Square programs set Church news The Church of Jesus Christ of Saints has nounced a month-lon- g series of Christmas concerts and other holiday season activities on Salt Lake Citys Temple Square. The traditional Christmas lighting display, featuring some 215,000 tiny lights in the trees and shrubs and along the walks and walls of the Square, will begin with a formal ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 1983. The ceremony will mark the formal beginning of the holiday season activities, which will include concerts by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Mormon Youth Symphony and Chorus, the Salt Lake Oratorio Society, numerous choruses from area high schools and other organizations, plus organ recitals and movies. The Carolers & Brass section Latter-da- y an- of the Mormon Youth Symphony, under the direction of Robert C. Bowden, will provide the music for the lighting ceremony which will be conducted on the plaza of the North Visitors Center. That same evening, Nov. 25, the movie, Mr. Kruegers Christmas, starring James Stewart and the Tabernacle Choir, will be shown at 7 p.m. in the North Visitors Center, and will then be shown continuously throughout the made-for-televisi- on balance of the Christmas season. There will be a variety of concerts in the Assembly Hall and the North Visitors Center, all sponsored by the General Activities Committee of the Church. Concerts will be held each night from Nov. 25 - Dec. 30, including the regular Friday and Saturday Temple Square concert series in the Assembly Hall and performances by a variety of organizations in both the Assembly Hall and the visitors center. Tickets are required only for the Salt Lake Oratorio Societys performance of The Messiah, and may be obtained from the Utah Symphony Box Office. Activities in the historic Tabernacle will include : Daily at noon: Tabernacle Organ recitals. Saturday and Sftnday, Dec. 10 and 11, 8 p.m. : Handels The Messiah, Salt Lake Oratorio Society. Friday, Dec. 16, 8 p.m.: Mormon Youth Symphony & Chorus Christmas Concert, Robert C. Bowden, director. Saturday, Dec. 17, and Tuesday, Dec. 20, 8 p.m.: Mormon Tabernacle Christmas Concerts. Sunday, Dec. Church-wid- Choir 18, 6:30 p.m.: Christmas e Fireside (this program will be transmitted live via satellite to some 600 gatherings around the United States). Saturday, Dec. 24, 8 p.m.: The Feeling of Christmas, a Christmas special Eve program. Every Thursday at 7:30 p.m.: Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals. Every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.: Mormon Tabernacle Choir radio and television broadcasts. The Christmas lighting display will continue Sunday, Jan. 1,1984. through Missionaries Ferron in the near future at Church News Reverend Milton Carr of the First Baptist Church of Emery County has just returned from a speaking tour in the Midwest and Southern states. This was in conjunction with his position as assistant director of the Northwest Baptist mission. Guest speakers at church in his absence were Mr. Wynn Terwilleger' of Ben Lomond, Calif, and Mr. Andy Adaak of Heber City. Mr. Terwilleger serves as the treasurer of the Northwest Baptist Mission, and Mr. Adaak is a teacher at the Christian School at Heber City. Nov. 29, the Baptist Church will conduct its monthly services for the residents of the Nursing Home. The ladies of the church are busy working on their annual Christmas gifts for the Nursing Home. This year they are making dinner bibs for the residents. On The Baptist ladies will be holding a Christmas party on Dec. 5. Each guest is requested to bring a $2 gift or a white elephant, a salad and a favorite cracker. All ladies and teenage girls in the county are cordially invited to attend. The Baptist congregation is working . towards paying the final payment on their ground in which time can they begin The economic slowdown has taken many of their members from the area building. which has slowed down building donations, but they are confident that contributions will keep coming in. Sunday School Christmas services at the Baptist Church will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11. There will be a special program and music. Everyone is welcome. Orangeville 2nd Ward returned Recently missionaries are David and Sandra Law, son and daughter of President and Mrs. Wesley R. Law, and Vincent Huntington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Huntington. Sandra and David will be reporting their missions Sunday, Nov. 27, and Vincent will report in a December meeting. Gold and Green Ball The Castle Dale Stake will be holding its Gold and Green Ball on Friday, Nov. 25 at the Stake Center. The dance begins at 8:30 p.m. with the floor show scheduled for 10:15. The band will be Easy Street and dress is dressy dress for women and suit and tie for men. Church schedules Mary Beth Gravley Sister Mary Beth Gravley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Noah Gravley of Ferron, has been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints in the Arkansas, Little Rock Mission. A farewell will be held for Sister Gravley on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 12:30 in the Ferron Second Ward Sacrament Meeting. In the past, when a police agency hired a new officer, it had to do all of its own testing. By using the list, an agency will be able to start with an applicant who has already proven he or she has the capabilities to become a police officer. The agency can go on from there with job interviews, work history or whatever selection criteria they use to make a final selection.
