Show PAGE POUR THE BINGHAM BULLETIN of West Jordan FRIDAY, JUNE 8, 1962 V V DRESS (7) REHEARSAL . . . One of the star dancers of a new show, "Cancan," which recently opened at the Moulin Rouge In Paris, goes through some paces during dress rehearsal. WELL I X PSRV ) J SOMS CR&r POR EVEN J 6RNGHG r HOM.r-- r interesting item is the "Gup-py,-" a small metal "fish" that sacrifices itself in sea water to aid boating enthusiasts harrassed with salt water corrosion prob-lems. The "fish" is actually a five pound zinc alloy anode which can be suspended in the water while a boat is moored to protect under-wat-er metal parts and fixtures from corroding. When it is lowered into salt or brackish water, a small electric current flows from the "fish" to the boat's underwater metal parts. No electrical power is re-quired and the unit does not en-danger sociable fish. If you're a boater you're in good company . , . and lots of it. According to a statistical report in "The Boating Industry" maga-zine 35,875,000 persons partici-pated in recreational boating in 1961. Other interesting items: More than 6 million outboard motors were in use in 1961. Some 3 million boat trailers were in use during the year. There are more than 4,000 ma- - rinas and boat yards in the United States. Increases in boat size and horse-power of new outboard motors were noticeable during the year. Average horsepower of motors sold during the year was 29.9, an increase of 2Vi horsepower over the previous record of 1960. Sales of boats under dropped from 54.1 per cent in 1960 to 45.7 per cent in 1961. Boat sales of craft from to increased from 33.7 per cent to 35.4 per cent in a year. Sales of boats and over also in-creased appreciably. Boating safety is also encour-aging. The report showed that fatalities dropped from .47 fatali-ties per 1,000 outboard motors in use in 1949 to a mere .22 fatalities per 1,000 motors in 1959.
