Household Finance has shown important leadership in this collaborative effort to better inform and protect borrowers. Under the settlement, Household agreed to pay restitution, legal costs and: - Limit prepayment penalties on current and future loans to only the first two years of a loan. - Ensure that new loans actually provide a benefit to consumers prior to making the loans. - Limit points and to fees origination - Reform and improve disclosures to consumers. up-fro- nt 5. - Eliminate piggyback second mortgages. In Utah, $4.4 million will be distributed to approximately 2,100 consumers. The details of the settlement and the process by which consumers can apply for restitution are being finalized and will be announced at a later date. Each state will design its own restitution plan, since lending practices by Household Fi- nance varied significantly from state to state. Cannon blasts postal service over concerns for rural delivery Library and museum visit . . . was a rainy week but the First Grade class had a successful field trip to the library and museum earlier this month. Six classes of First Grade students walked to the Grand County Library and the Dan OLaurie Museum on Oct. 2, 3, and 4. Many students signed up for their first library card and everyone received an orientation and heard a couple of great stories. The museum was studied by way of having a treasure hunt. Students were given index cards with a museum artifact to locate. Once the item was located they went off to find another one. In this way each child was responsible for identifying many different items. Back at their classrooms they created an ABC book about the museum. The picnic lunch was a favorite part of their day and one group of students, 40 of them, had to invite themselves into the courthouse lobby and council chambers as their lunch time got rained out. The First Grade teachers and students wish to thank Tracey Oliver, the childrens librarian who welcomed all the new library patrons and Virginia Fossey who graciously opened the museum just for the First Graders. Cannon sent a letter to the USPS to demand that the Postal Service continue ASYS-regional airmail service. The Postal Service raises rates for everyone, but is cutting service in rural communities. Its not fair and it will cost jobs," Cannon said. For over a decade, the USPS has contracted with regional airlines to ensure that mail is delivered to outlying areas in a timely fashion. But the USPS is now planning to put rural mail on trucks - a move that will Blow mail service down considerably and threaten much lpnger delays during inclement weather. The Postal Service is creating two customer classes-peopl- e that live near a major metropolitan area and get mail service, and everybody else. I am concerned most about rural Utah businesses that rely on timely mail service to remain competitive. They pay the same postal rate as someone in a big city, why service? Cannon questioned.
