Show Page B7 Test encourages high school students to compete for scholarships TestOut Corporation, Utah Valley State College and Advanced Technical Center are sponsoring the second annual TestOut Challenge. The Challenge is a competitive event designed for high scixxd and applied technology students to encourage tliem to pursue technology careers and industry certifications. Students will compete for mare than $150,000 in scho- larships and certification test vouchers by demonstrating their skill proficiency by testing in two of the following networking exams; Cisco CCNA, CompTLAA , CompTIA Network, Microsoft istered using TestOut's ExamSim product that simulates the actual certification exam. All Utah high school and applied technology students enrolled in a networking or other technology courses are eligible, lb date, more than 300 students have registered to compete. One high school experience Jamie remembers with at Faculty members Grand County High School are pleased to announce that the Students of the Month for April are Chad Bishoff and Jamie llulce. They are both seniors at GCHS and have gone to school in Moab since kindergarten. Chad was nominated for this recognition because as one teacher said, "He is a nice guy. He has a positive approach to things and will try to do what is asked. He is good humored and treats others with respect." Chad is the son of Ken and Sally Bishoff. A good student, Chad is taking or has taken trigonometry, calculus and chemistry. While he finds these classes challenging he enjoys the challenge. lie also enjoys human biology, ceramics and being an intern. He likes the hands-oaspect of ceramics and the internship. Involvement in many n school activities such as stu- dent government and sports, keeps Chad busy. He has been a member of the student council for three years. He played football and wrestled for four years and ran track for two years. "The activities 1 love the most would be in the outdoors hiking, backpacking, fishing, camping and almost every oilier activity in the outdoors," Chad says. Community Service is also important in Chads life. He is an Eagle Scout. He helped with the water stop for the half marathon, Olympic road clean up, and getting firewood to the elderly. Speaking of community service, Chad said he would particular fondness was managing the team when they qualified for State Competition. In general she likes Moab for its scenery the mountains and cross-countr- y Chad Bishoff red rocks. After graduation, Jamie plana to work until the spring or fall of 2003 and then go to college and major in equine of her favorite subjects. She says, "Its really fun to learn a new language and I love to read and write." Jamie is taking an introductory English class from Utah State University that also counts as her senior English class. The courses Jamie finds most challenging are math classes. Jamie has trained her own horse and considers riding one of her hobbies. She also likes to rend, write, and help out at the vet clinic. She volunteers at the Spanish Valley Vet Clinic for ten to fifteen hours a week. From this experience like to see the school respected more not have fellow students trashing it every day. One of Chad's favorite memories of high school is the Geography Club trip to the East. "It was a lot of fun going to visit our nations capital and touring New York City." He likes the small size of the high school. As he says, "If a person wants, he or she can get involved with sports or other Bchool activities. Looking ahead, Chad will go on a mission for the LDS Church and then attend SUU when he returns. Jamie Lyn Hulce was nominated, in part, for her positive attitude, good work ethic and positive influence in the classroom. The daughter of Konnie and Dick Pacheco and Jim and Carol Hulce, Jamie is a senior at GCHS. Jamie is a member of the National Honor Society and has received awards for excellence in Spanish for two years. Spanish and English are two science. The Student of the Month program is sponsored by the local Elks Lodge. The high school coordinator is Joan Gough. The students are also recognized by the Rotary Club and Grand County School District Board of Education. The program was started by the Elks to recognize students who were outstanding in the areas of character, leadership, service, citizenship and scholastic performance.
