School administrators are not worried Magna Cyprus High about losing its accreditation despite receiving a warning last week from the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. The report placed 10 Utah high schools on the warning list, including Cyprus, Highland, West, Grantsville, Kearns, Layton, Skyview, Snow Canyon and South Sevier High, for issues dealing with excessive teacher student ratios and not teaching the core curriculum. But administrators say one reason Cyprus was cited is because they sre building physics and biology labs, and therefore those classes are being taught in different classrooms around the campus. Monticello Attorney Doug Short told the San Juan County Commission on Feb. 26 that Commissioner Mark Maryboy has a right to separate legal counsel in regards to the lawsuits facing the county and the San Juan Health Care District. In fact. Short stated that not just Maryboy, but the other individuals who are being sued in the massive lawsuits should have separate legal counsel. Short said, If you claim everything you did was in the scope of your responsibilities as an official, you have the right to request separate legal counsel." Two of the three commissioners have been fighting to stop Maryboy from using Short because he worked for the party suing the county. They have said Maryboy has been leaking information to them.
