They moved back to Santaqum. then to Tucson, Ariz., w here J ake w orked at the Pima M me for Centenniel Development Company for approximately two years. The family moved to the Moab area in tlie early 1950s, during the Uranium Boom Jake worked at Little Beaver Mine and La Sal Shaft for Homestake Min1 ing Company until 964, then w as emw ith ployed Texasgulf until his retirement in 1977, Jake and Maliel then moved back to Santaqum, w here they built their present home and have residl'd since that time. He was a member of the LDS Church, a lifetime member of the Elks laxlge. and a member of the 1 st Fire Association in Santaquin. Survivors include his wife, Maliel. Santaquin; two daughters, Judy (Glen I Holyoak, Moab; Luana iMikei Juenger, Mesquite, Nev.; one son, David (Sue) Weierman, Taylorsville, numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Jake was preceded in death by his mother (1920), his father (1945), his sister. Martha, ( 1995), and two sons, Charles 1987) and Gary ( 1986). Miss Lyzz, as she was affectionately known to her two- - and three-year-ocharges, was a truly inspiring young woman. She loved working wih children, climbing, hiking, traveling, animals and, of course, her Moab family. Lyzz was someone who changed the life of everyone she touched. As the head teacher for the Moab Arts & Rec. Centers Sprouts program, she guided young toddlers through the wonders of nature, cre- - I I-- your vehicle! Time k Si , ld themselves. Lyzz was a familiar face at the Halloween Carnival, Moab Arts Festival, and any other event where she could help out with children. Last summer she was also a camp counselor for Kids Tbgether, Lyzz working with 6- - to was patient, generous, and ready with a quick smile, a full laugh and a shoulder to lean on for young and old alike. Born on Apnl 16, 1971 Byrnes came to Moab in December of 1997, after finishing her B.S. in children and family studies from the University of Wyoming. While working for the MARC, Canyonlands Copy Center, Grand County Solid Waste District, Slick Rock Cafe, Barbara Hicks and Navtec Expeditions she continually showed her loyalty and dedica- - Lyzz Byrnes stands for a photo at the top of Lover's Leap tion. A spirited individual, Lyzz lived life fully, moment to moment, enjoying the simple life of nature and friends. Recently she traveled to the east side of the Sierras and Yosemite with her boyfriend Linus Platt, a trip she had hoped to make again this fall. In addition to her boyfriend Linus. Lyzz leaves behind, her mother Jane E. Byrnes and father William Allen Byrnes from Kentucky, her brother, countless friends and her beloved dog, Hobbs.
