Show aiE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE SUNDAY MORNING, JUNE 27, 1920. -s- -3 to take every precaution to avoid unneo-eesawear on the truck. The coat of upkeep on any truck will depend largely on the way In which It le cared for. and we hope by meant of thl free service to help our customer! to yet truck efficiency with the lowest possible upkeep cost. The Republic Truck company It the largest manufacturer of motor trucks In the world. This company's growth le due primarily to the unquestioned worth of the Republic truck, which has been proved to more than sixty thousand owners: but It Is also due to the splendid policy of giving helpful service to customers. We are' making many sales of Republic trucks throughout the lntermountaln territory, and at present we are able to make Immediate deliveries to buyere on some models." ry Corporation President Pays Frank Botterill Tells of Hyland Motor Company Reasons Why This Car Is Compliment on Visit Here So Widely, Well Known. Declaring that the Intermountain territory offers unlimited possibilities tot the motor truck and that It will only be a question of time before Salt Lake is made a distributing point, for Iack trucks, R. K. Fulton, president of the Mack International Motor Truck corporation and vice president of the International Motor company, and J. A. Stoner, vice president of the Mack International Motor Truck company, visited representatives of the Richards Motor company. Mack distributors, here tins week. Mr. Fulton's headquarters are In New York, while Mr. Stoner, .who has supervision of ail the Pacific coast and Intermountain Mack truck branches, makes his headquarters at Los Angeles. Mr. Fulton stated that the Mack truck really an outgrowth of plans developed after a trip made through this territory some years ago. Mr. Fulton, towith A. F. 'Masury. chief engigether neer of the corporation, investigated conditions here and the kind oTtruck that would have to be built in orderro stand up under severe use. The result is the Mack truck of today. It is essentially a western truck for western people, Mr. Fulton asserts. Cooperation between the railroads and motor trucks was urged by Mr. Fulton and Mr. Stoner. Especially on short hauls, It was explained, trucks can aid greatly in solving the high cost of foodstuffs. Men engaged In agriculture do not appreciate the value of motor trucks to the fullest extent, the Mack officials declare. Trucks and other modern machinery on a farm solves to a great measure the problem of the decreasing farm help. Statistics show that each year a large number of farmers and farm hands move to the cities and the Mack officials say the question of labor must bo solved by use of powerized machinery. Messrs. Fulton and Stoner stated that indications now are that it would only be a matter of time before Salt Lake is made & distributing point for Mack trucks This would mean that not only would tbre be more Macks for distribution here, but facilities for giving service to owners would be much greater. It was mentioned, for instance, that with a Mack truck distributing point here, a stock of about $200,000 worth of parts would be carried, so that there would be little possibility of a truck being held up at any time. It would mean, practically, that this would be & warehouse for Macks. The Mack officials stated that It was only after a period of about two years' investigation that a Mack dealer contract was let in this territap', and then to the Richards 'Motor coinpany, a subsidiary organization of the Hyland Motor company The Richards company was formed for the explicit purpose of distributing Mack trucks here. Theie were several agen es seKing the Mack dealership, but the Richards firm was awarded the plum. Present headquarters are at 57 South 1 Essex week is to be celebrated throughout the United States next week. In various cities the weeks events will take on many different aspects. In some of them spectacular 'stunts will be staged; In others endurance tests will be made, genand Essex owners and dealers erally will cooperate to make the week an event that will be written big In the history of automobLedom. 'No one questions Essex performance said Frank Botterill of the Botterill Automobile company, distributor In the intermountain territory for this popular car, It has established Its leadership in every test that reveals the most wanted of car qualities, it is this fact that has made It, in the comparatively short time it lias been on the market, the car in America. Already there are nearly 40,000 satisfied owners. 'Essex success is built upon its1 quality, but its growth is the result of the way in which everyone has taken notice of what it has done to prove that quality. It is well known among all who profess even nodding acquaintance with the automobile Industry that the Essex is, in a way, the Hudsons younger brother. It was designed by the same engineers who made the Hudson a super car, and the Essex factory is in the same area and under the same ownership as the Hudson There are nearly 500 parts factory. which are identical in the two cars. Its general lines are highly pleasing; Its power plant is marvelous, It is economical in gasoline and oil and in tire mileage, it is full of snap and vim; it is one of the easiest of cars for a woman to handle, and has long life and endurance that appeal to anyone who wants a superior car at a moderate price, During next week dealers in this territory will bring pointedly to the attention of the public generally the merits Essex of this wonderful automobile. owners will generally cooperate In the effort, for it is a fact that no automobile owners are more enthusiastic oxer their cars than are the Essex owners. It might almost be said that there is an Efcex 'qlan. There is no doubt but that next weex will be a great success as an automobile event and many interesting demonstrations will be staged which It will pay the public to watch. Many manufacturers located east of Chicago will no doubt .follow the example of the Franklin Automobile company, which has just received two barge loads of enclosed bodies sent to the Salt City from Buffalo via the new canal route. The shipment, consisting of 100 sedan and brougham bodies, valued at a quar ter of a million dollars, was not only the largest and most valuable ever dispatched over the barge canal, but was the first of its kind. The journey was made in four days considerably less time than would have been consumed by rail under present conditions. The Franklin company will continue to make use of the barge canal whenever possible, as well as to employ a large fleet of pncumatxc-tire'trucks which are kept constantly at work dibtant in raw material from bringing cities. The Syracuse factory is driving away practically 50 per cent of its finished cars. From April 1 to May 18, inclusive, 719 cars were dispatched under their own power to twenty-fivstates, including such distant points as Wash ington, Wisconsin, Kansas and South Carolina. Unfilled orders for cars reached a record figure with Franklin on May 15, with 4204 orders on the companys books still unfilled, despite a production of sixty cars a day. try are watching with t SALUTE YOU, 0 0 MOTORISTS!'
