Show GIRL AUTO VICTIM DIES TUESDAY A dramatic attempt by law officers, of-ficers, Salt Lake County ambulance drivers and physicians to save the life of a ten-year-old Salt Lake County girl, who had been struck by an automobile failed Tuesday evening. Kathleen Ostler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Ostler, I 1601 S. 1300 West, was struck by a car at 1 1 527 S. 1300 West, in South Jor-dan. Jor-dan. The accident occurred at 5:48 p.m., the girl died in a Salt Lake hospital at 7:30 p.m. . Investigating officers said the girl apparently was riding her bike north down a slight hill and made a turn and was going south when struck by a car going north on 1300 West. Driver of the car was Mrs. Jan-eane Jan-eane Brown Kuhn, 20, 12904 So. 1700 West. Riverton. Mrs. Kuhn said that she saw the girl as she came over the crest of the hill and although she swerved and applied her brakes, she was unable to miss the girl. The car also knocked down a mail box. Minutes after the accident, a relay re-lay of sheriff's cars was set up to help the county ambulance both en route to and from the accident scene. Patrol cars blocked traffic on side streets as the ambulance sped at top speed to the hospital, about 20 miles away. Salt Lake City police officers G. H. Grant made two runs from Salt Lake General 1 lospital to the Red Cross blood bank and back delivering 10 units of blood as the doctors battled to save the girl's life. The girl's left leg was severed just above the knee. Kathleen Ostler was born July 28, 1951, in Murray, a daughter of Stephen and LaVern Steadman Ostler. She was a member of the South Jordan Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was in the fifth grade at South Jordan Elementary School. Survivors Surviv-ors include her parents; four sisters sis-ters and six brothers: Mrs. Royce (LaRee) Creen, Roosevelt; Lee, Draper; Galen, Murray; Paul and Niel, Sandy; Mrs. Theo (Arlou) Halt and Mrs. Delbert (Joan) Christensen, West Jordan; Deloris, Reed and Deon, South Jordan. Funeral services will be held Friday Fri-day (today) at 12:30 p.m. in the South Jordan LDS Ward Chapel. " |
