Grover, of Blanding, Utah, with 25 scouts and eight leaders from Troops 311, 960 and 905 were in the Disappointment Valley to participate in the brothers Eagle Scout Projects. Their projects were to preserve the Lavender and Nash Cemeteries. They cleaned up, made grave markers, fenced, added gates, and installed signs designating the sites of each. The Sleeping Ute Mountain Chapter of the Daughters Oil Two Wheels , continued from B7... so that the BLM, as per CFR Title 43, Section 2932.11, can factor his event into their equation of planning decisions, resource concerns, potential user conflicts, or public health and safety. These paper barricades may defend the BLM if the lawyers come, and the promoter, as required, has an insurance company behind him. Still an RV blew right through all that red tape and killed a rider. Thats not to judge the driver of the RV; I cant imagine the trauma of being involved in such an incident, and I dont know that there is any cause to blame the driver. However, that vehicle was allowed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The promoter of Tour of Canyonlands is only allowed to close Kane Creek Road for short periods to accommodate race starts. With the level of motorized use out that road this time of year, thats unacceptable. Cyclists in a race are competing at the edge of their abilities, both fitness and skill. They shouldnt be forced to compete for space on the road at the same time. Next year that road needs to be closed for the duration of the race. If Highway 128 can be shut down for one morning for a marathon, certainly we can do the same on Kane Creek for one Sunday morning a year. We are sorry to announce that Millcreek Medex of the American Revolution (DAR) have been involved in the very important project of researching the locations of the graves of Civil War soldiers who lived in Southwestern Colorado in the late 1800s. Since 1994, with the aid of family members, the graves of 19 veterans have been identified and marked with either a Civil War headstone for those unmarked graves or a bronze type marker placed with the existing headstone. A joint meeting will be held on May 1, 2004, in the Disappointment Valley, to finalize the installation of the markers for Wilkes Nash and George Washington Wilemon, two men who served in the Army of the Confederacy. The Boy Scouts will present a Flag Ceremony and the DAR will have a Dedication Ceremony. Everyone interested in Disappointment Valley is invited to attend. The Scouts and their families from Blanding and the DAR Chapter members will meet at the junction of Ryman Creek (Forest Service Rd 240) and Disappointment Road (C.R.
