During that clinical discussion, we learned youd know the baby was coming because the head would crown; images of tiny, pristine royalty popped into my own head. We were warned that there would also be pain and blood, and that the baby would contort some on the way out. I lowever, as so many people warned me in recent months, nothing can prepare you for the real event. When our daughter her Grace was way into the world on August 28, I had to stop myself from asking out loud if she was supposed to look like that. Even in that overwrought moment, I knew that would be inappropriate. Other parents have also told me that there's no experience that compares to childbirth, so its impossible to share with others. With that in mind, I have torpedo-headin- g news and views d that impact built in. Ill bet no appropriate language to describe the incredible rush of joy Frank Zappa came up with the word upon the birth of his first child. Even that falls short. If I could share what Ive been through, theyd have to make me poet laureate, and Id have to move to Washington. Then Grace would have to go to private school, and Id have John Ashcroft poking around my desk when Im not looking. So Ill give up trying to explain, and well stay in Moab where you can still children and try raise to share the big moments with friends and neighbors. that came with Grace. Ten days later. I recoiled slightly, wondering why hed want to witness the facts of the case; without the feeling, its just a medical procedure. I told him we took some pictures after the birth, when the nurse reminded us it might be a good idea. I had a feeling I might be called away, and I 1 way too many to describe such pure emotion. It would be a brilliant piece of poetry that could sum it up, preferably in just a few words. Maybe we just need a whole new word, one with all wanted to get as much done as possible. The track was far from ready at the end of the day. After that, things on my mind for a few days (and for the rest of my life, Im sure). So when I broke away from the expanded family last week to visit the track, I expected to find a mess. If people had been riding, instead of shoveling, the soft dirt Id moved, it would be a setback. d Instead, I found a berm on the first turn, blocked off by old tires to keep riders off. Poison Spider Bicycles pays me for much of the work I do on the track, and the shop will pay me to play Race Director through k fall series. The issue was sparked by a report from councilman Dale Slade that Hart, and the president of the Utah Hospital Assn, went to Washington, D.C. to visit officials of the Department of Housing and Urban Development to withdraw its support for the proposed Blue Mountain Hospital in Blanding, a facility.
