In the end, on a motion by Ray Pene, the council tabled the sale pending legal advice from our deputy county attorney. In other business, the council heard from Moab Community Development Coordinator David Olsen that expansion at Allen Memorial Hospital could get a boost from changes in Moabs flood plain map. The hospital is borrowing close to a million dollars to expand the growing Home Health Agency office space and to build a clinic and office complex for hospital physicians. One problem is that the hosflood pital is in the and within that building plain, area can add significant cost to construction. But Olsen said that a new analysis bv the Armv Corps of Engineers indicates that Mill Creek, a major source of potential flooding, will probably not rise as high in a huge storm as originally thought. And he added that work on the Mill Creek flood 100-ye- ar control parkway, specifically widening the channel, increasing Requirements are: Complete six hours of training. The Foster Care Program could use additional support for Moab Citys youth. Many foster the size of culverts and expanding flows under Moabs bridges, will reduce the flood likelihood even more, to the point that the hospital and surrounding areas could be designated as outside the flood zone by next year. In further business the council approved an agreement with the Bureau of Land Management that will allow the Sandflats Recreation Area staff to construct primitive campsites and pit toilets at popular camping areas north of town, along the Colorado River Corridor, and south along Kane Creek. The idea is to have campers pay a fee, as they do along Sandflats, to offset the operating cost of maintaining the facilities. According to Sandflats team leader Dave Dawson, the popu larity of the area is growing. He said over the ten days prior to Easter Sunday, there were 1,000 more camper nights near Slickrock than one year ago, and that day use was up by as much as 4,000 people. According to Craig Bigler, who oversees the Sandflats area, there were 34,000 visitors to the recreation spot in March of this year. That compares to 49,000 combined for both March and April of 1996. The council voted to ask for proposals from accounting firms to audit local motels and overnight accommodations. The plan is for random checks of the motels to assure that the county is collecting the right amount of transient room tax. Four Comers Planning Inc., was hired as a consultant for up to 28 hours per month, at an hourly rate of $65, to help the planning department. The firm replaces contract planner Phil Sieber, who decided earlier this year to cut back on his workload. And former hospital administrator Kay Hawks, who recently returned to Moab to make his home, was appointed to a vacancy on the hospital board, replacing Rudy Higgins, whose term expired. conferences this week at high school Parent-teache- r High School ParentTeacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday evening, April 10th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday morning, April 11th from 8 a.m. to noon.
