One such area is state vehicle registration. While this facet of the law touches almost everyone, at the same time, it is one of the most confusing for active duty members. This confusion is even furthered by state agencies that are not well versed on how this area of the law affects military members. Basically, a member of the armed forces of the United States may register a vehicle in the state of his or her legal residence. Upon so registering the vehicle, he or she is exempt from registration requirements in Utah, while under military orders. This caveat for military members is an exception to the y rule for civilians. If you do not fit into an exception, you must register your vehicle within 60 days of moving to Utah. Those civilians that do not register their vehicles in Utah within 60 days risk a misdemeanor conviction and a fine of a $1000. Otherwise, if you are a member of the armed forces, you do not have to reregister your vehicle in Utah when you have previously registered it in your William E. Walker, Ronald L.
