Show Spouses clubs award scholarships to graduates by Tamiko Gilchrest Officers Spouses Club Scholarship Chairperson Six outstanding Hill youth were recently recognized with scholarships for their academic and athletic accomplishments and community contributions. A judging panel rated applicants on honors and awards, activities, community participation, extra-curricul- ar leadership activities, employment, SAT and ACT scores, grades, depth of curriculum, student essays and letters of recommendation. Jeb Northern received a $2,000 USPA & IRA Scholarship. Northern, who had the highest score of all applicants, attended Layton High School where he was active in Key Club, National Honor Society and president of the Health Occupations Students of in America. Hes an academic football and was honored by the Stan all-sta- te dard Examiner as a Top Scholar. Northern will attend the University cf Michigan to pursue a medical career. Roe attended Northridge High School. Julie Grosshans received a $1,000 Officers Spouses Club and Enlisted Spouses and Associates Club Scholarship. Grosshans attended Layton High School where she was editor in chief for the school newspaper, correspondence secretary for the National Honor Society and vice president of Scout for 12 years. Valen- cia attended Northridge High School where she was active in National Honor Society, Deputy Group Commander for the JROTC and a Recruiting Officer. Shes earned varsity letters in volleyball, soccer and basketball as well as several music and academic awards. Valencia was also a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar Finalist.
