MUSIC Combat Rock by James Cline Who says ail punk music is bad? Anyone who does hasnt been listening very closely to The Clash, one of the most forceful groups ever to lay down music on vinyl. Combat Rock, The clashs latest album, is a departure from the excess and inconsistency of their last album, Sandinista!. It was a three record set with thirty-si- x (!) songs. The Clash has cut back on the new album to one record with twelve songs, but the inconsistency is still there. This shouldnt stop anyone from at least listening to the album, because the best tracks are well worth it. Many readers may already have heard (and seen) Rock the Casbah on MTV. This song, plus Should I Stay or Should I Go and Overpowcould be ered by Funk considered the best. Much of the rest of the album either grows on you or bores you stiff. It largely depends on your taste, and The Clash is definitely an acquired taste. CLASS RINGS by Tammy Gordon and Colette Johnston The junior class was asked to make a decision about a momento that will remind them of their high school years forever. On September 27 they ordered their class rings. Students with last names starting A to M met with the Jostens representative at 1 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. Students with last names N to Z met from 1:55 til 2:45 p.m. A $25 to $30 down payment was required depending on the student 8 choice of metal. The junior class officers met and decided what rings they thought best for the class to choose from. The girls were given three choices and the boys were given two. Upon arrival the amount due will be paid and the juniors will receive their rings around Christmas. Several times during the week the classes became upset with each other. Sometimes the students went as far as to trade insults. Jimmy Hawks, president of the junior class, said, We plan to use the money we won for getting a good band and good decorations for the dance. Sadi RISE AND SHINE by Krista Davis Have you ever wondered what life is like in the morning for everyone else if they have as much fun getting out of bed in the morning as you do?
