The contract for the cement pads which the mail boxes sit on have already been passed and the solicitation for the job of mail carrier has to be posted for 30 days before a contract is awarded, but the postal service is kind of holding until the residents respond. The postmaster is asking those who havent responded to the questionaire indicating one of two options, either their post discontinuing office box and transferring mail to the valley or keeping their post office box and not using the valley service to let him know their desires. He concluded that they might have to abolish the whole-thing- ." Mail Service in Doubt The possibility of mail service to Castle Valley is in doubt at this time, according to Postmaster Lew Prowse. It seems that the response to the questionaire that was sent by the post office has been poor. Of the over 150 letters sent out to Castle Valley area residents, only 55 have responded, of that total, only 27 favored the service. Prowse indicated that some residents who signed Firemen Elect Officers New officers were elected at a meeting of the Castle Fire Department, Valley Tuesday, September 28. Commissioner of Reclamation Robert N. Broadbent said, Until recently, little effort was made to determine the potential for small, d hydropower generation in the West. One major reason was economics. Now, the increasing however, demand for more electrical energy and the rising cost of other power generating fuels d have made production feasible. The study, , Report on, d Assessment of Hydroelectric Sites in the Western States, is the third and final phase of the d generation Study. The purpose of the report is to describe the studies and evaluations on 86 potential hydropower sites selected from phase II of the study, which identified 2,628 sites having hydropower potential. These studies were an outgrowth of a Reclamation investigation called the Western Energy Expansion Study. The latest report defines d as having a net head of water (the depth of usable water behind the dam) of not more than 20 meters (approximately 66 feet). Publication of the results of this study, Broadbent will encourage said, interests to consider these sites for development. The Bureau of Reclamation has identified the potential sites' and has developed the basic technical information. low-hea- -- , low-hea- low-hea- ( Low-Hea- ; low-hea- n. The four main activities involved in conducting the study were field investigations and site data collection, power studies and generating unit selections, preliminary designs and cost estimated, and power benefit evaluations and economic analyses. A basic assumption made in the power studies was that all the powerplants would be plants, and that no changes would be made in the river-flow patterns. The Board of Trustees invite anyone who has any questions to contact the Districts Office on South Highway 163, Moab, Utah or phone 259-8- 21 .
