I Utah has recorded two deaths and seven injuries from lightning strikes so far this year, according to a report from William J. Alder, meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service office in Salt Lake City. Alder said another lightning injury occurred in late September in the Castle Rock area near Moi'b. Ironically, the lightning injury on Sept. 20 was at the same time of day and almost the identical location as an Aug. 16 incident in which one climber was killed and her companion was injured. The injured person, a woman, was climbing on Castle Rock when struck by lightning. A climbing companion helped her down and went for help.
