More rain was expected to sail off the Gulf of Mexico into Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas, with two to four inches of rain possible in some areas and temperatures forecast to rise into the 50s and 60s as far north as Memphis. In the Midwest, temperatures were expected to rise into the 40s as clouds swept northeast into Canada, clearing skies as far east as New England, where highs were anticipated in the 40s today. High temperature in the nation Thursday was 85 degrees at both Brownsville and Laredo, Texas.
