Show BINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL NEWS by Athena Floros STATE CLASS A CAGE TOURNEY STARTS TUESDAY, MARCH 7 Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, March 7, 8, 10 and II are the dates set for the state Class A basketball tournament. As defending de-fending stato champions and winner of Region Ftur Bingham High will play the Region Five third place team the first night Tuesday 7 p.m. at the B.Y.U. Fieldhouse at Provo. Bingham lis playing in the southern bracket. LEAGUE PLAY ENDS Despite all the Miners' attempts last Friday night to end the season with a 9-1 game reword, the determined deter-mined and unrelenting Cyprus Pirates Pir-ates came out ahead to place them in the tournament race. Bingham High cagers traveled to Magna last Fr.day night and dropped drop-ped a thrilling close 52 to 51 contest con-test to the Pirates. The two teams were tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter. At halftime the Miners were in front 28-23 and at the end of the third period Cyprus led 42-39. 42-39. Clifford Butt hit the hoop for 25 points to lead Bingham scoring. Others seeing action and scoring for the Miners were John Johnson, 13; Paul Wiechman, 6; Jim Lovat, 5; Dimond, 2; and Kent Simkins. The Miners finishing the regular season with a 8-2 record, arc first place winners in Region Four. Granger Gran-ger and Cyprus with 6-4 records tied for second place-. FILM PRESENTED A Bdl Telephone film was presented pre-sented to students Tuesday morning morn-ing as part of the home room guidance guid-ance project. JUNIOR PROM DATED FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 17 Junior Prom time is once again nearing and the 1 excitement is steadily surmounting because of something that has never been attempted at-tempted by Bingham High School before. Instead of the traditional dance in the gymnasium, the Junior Class voted to hold their big event at the University of Utah Union Building. Fricjay, March 1 7th, St. Patrick's Day, was the day set aside and Linda Peterson, Riverton, was selected as chairman. Show "Darby's Rangers" with James Garner and Ed Byrnes was presented present-ed to the student body Wednesday morning to raise money for the Junior Prom. Honor Students Announced Bingham High School last week released the names of its honor students, those in the top three per cent of the graduating class of 208 seniors. The announcement came from the office of Principal Joel P. Jensen last week. The honor, conferred on nine, is Scholastic achievement which any university or college in the country will recognize and for some it will mean scholarships to various schools. The rankings are determined on the grade point average in basic subjects only for the three high school years 1 0th, llth and 12th grades. The honored students are: Randy Parr and Neal Steadman, West Jordan; Lauritz Peterson, Riverton; Georgia Saibara, West Jordan; Jo-Ann Jo-Ann Pasquali and Peggy Jean Ro-bison, Ro-bison, Copperton; Merlynn Densley, Riverton; Reeves Dahlstrom and Athena Floros, Copperton. |
