Show HUNTING, Wednesday, September a, ihc la-- hkalu, rrwo, wan, rage There's tots f difference an varioys 'ba By REX LNFANGER Herald Correspondent Buying the right sleeping bag can often make the difference between having a good hunt and having a miserable time. All sleeping bags are not made the same. The difference in how they are constructed makes the difference in how they perform. There are many factors in bag construction that can affect the final performance. The shape of the bag, its weight and comfort are usually what influences the purchase. Shape is generally the first factor to consider in purchasing a bag. A rectangular bag has to have more fill material in it to achieve the same comfort zone a mummy or y style bag will have. This is because the bag is larger and there is more space to fill. Mummy-styl- e bags usually weigh less the they are more restrictive in allowing your body to move around while sleeping. Fill material influences how warm the bag is. The more a fill material is able to increase dead in the fiber are coming very close to matching it for weight and dead air space doesn't compare well, you are without BY REX C. Loft in a bag can be destroyed permanently by improper bag storage. The bag should not be stored rolled up of stuffed. Generally, the more layers there are, the warmer the bag will be even with the same amount of fill material. The outer and inner shells of a bag play a role in how much the bag weighs, how durable it is and how warm it feels. Bags with a heavy cotton check material on the outside and a flannel lining on the inside are usually very durable, feel warm when you get in them and weigh a lot. Nylon bags inside is lost. Loft can also be lost temporarily by getting the fill material wet. Down is especially bad because it collapses almost flat. Synthetic materials are not as bad because many of them do not absorb water and so they maintain their loft. Fill weight is important. There must be enough fill to stop the heat from going up out of the bag. One pound of down in a full size bag is not going to keep you warm in the snow, it isn't thick enough to create a good air barrier. Bag construction plays a role in how well it functions. A bag that has seams sewn through all the lavers of insulation will leak warm uUULnJ CD III come around the corner. The man behind the wheel brought the vehicle to a slow stop. The deer didn't move. The man reached for his weapon and rolled down the window. A single shot and the deer was down. Hunters would be glad at this point, even though the work was just beginning. But this man was not a hunter, he was a thief and a criminal that we commonly call a poacher. He had shot the animal from a vehicle, on the road in August. He had to get the deer cleaned, dressed and hidden before he was discovered because discovery is his worst enemy. Every year there are many scenes like this one that take place in Utah and throughout the west. Poachers rob us of our recreation and destroy our children's heritage. They generally do it out of greed, not need. Poachers kill anything that will make them money. It doesn't matter to them what the herd management program is. They don't care if someone else doesn't get the legal opportunity to hunt or fish because of their activities. life Resources Game Thief. reg. and orlg. prices IN STOCK WINCHESTER" 1400 1228VR Semi-automat- ic Shotgun M SUPER BUYS Oil MMY BROWNING -- BOLT RIFLES! Bag limits, sex, age limits, weapon restrictions mean nothing to them. They take everything they can get as long as they make a profit from it. Poachers cost all of us because not only have we lost the animals, but we lost both the instate and out of state tourist dollars because the animals are no longer here.
