Interstate 15, the major north-soutroute, has 337 miles open to traffic out of its tota' length of 402 miles. Interstate 80 has 179 miles open out of 193 total miles. Interstate 70 which extends from the Colorado h Air-Forc- working dog. A procurement team is in Salt Lake area now through Sunday seeking dogs for the program. City-Ogde- n The U.S. Air Force Doc Procurement Team from Lackland Air Force Base, Tex., is in the Salt area today through Sunday to examine dog candidates offered by any bonafide owner for either donation or sale. The dogs must be German shepherds They will be trained to sniff out explosives and perform other detection and patrol dog duties with the military services. d Owners may make an appointment for the free acceptance evaluation by calling at the Hill Air Force Base Veterinary Public Health Office. or Dogs which pass the test can be accepted and purchased for up to 250 or the team will accept donations. To be accepted, dogs must be either male or female; need not be purebred or registered, but must look and act like a Shepherd; be between one and three years of age; at least 23 inches high at the shoulder, and weigh at least Lake-Ogde- 1 777-296- The dogs and handlers are trained at the Air Force Dog School at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Tex. The Utah Department of Transportation has announced that Utah was among the top recipients to be awarded Federal-aiHighway Descretionary Funds for fiscal year 1979. Under the Federal-aiHighway Act of 1978, monies that that are not obligated by the end of the year for which they are appropriated are transferred to a discretionary "pot" where they are disbursed to the states which are in a position to utilize additional revenues for constructing the Interstate System. To qualify for discretionary funds, the applicant must have obligated its regular funds plus have other highway projects ready to advertise for bidding. The normal allotment for the state of Utah in 1979 was $35 million. The state was able to qualify for 2Vi times that amount $86.5 million in additional discretionary funds. d German Shepherds Eyed 60 pounds.
