Show Pa 10 THE HERALD, lufc Prove, Monday, Novembtr 20, Mi Poll Reports How Utahns Feel About Mr A Safety at Nighttime IH : - SALT LAKE CITY UPI Most I'tahns feel it s reasonably safe to walk the streets of their towns at but residents of major cities are not as night secure as those who live in less urbanized areas a poll says Men feel safer than women and young people feel safer than older persons according to the poll, conducted b Bardsley and Haslacher Inc Overall 29 percent of those polled said they feel vfry afp nn the streets at night. 38 percent somewhat safe 32 percent not too safe percent was undecided Residents of counties with the smallest populations outside the Wasatch Front gave the streets of their communities the highest rating from safety at night 45 percent said they feel very safe 35 percent said they feel somewhat safe and only 20 percent said they do not feel safe The people of Salt Lake and Weber counties are the least secure In Salt Lake County 25 percent said they feel very safe 34 percent somewhat safe. 39 percent not safe and 2 percent were undecided In Weber County. 20 percent said they feel safe 45 percent somewhat safe and 35 percent not safe Of the men polled. 74 percent give nighttime streets a very or somewhat safe rating, while only 59 percent of the women said they feel the same way And the poll showed a steady decline in confidence as age increases 81 percent of those 18 - 20 - years old said they feel very or somewhat safe, but only 40 percent of those over-6age group said they feel safe or somewhat safe walking the streets at night.
