(UPI) New York Yankees first baseman Chris Chambliss says Reggie Jackson caused the firing of Manager Billy Martin and says Jackson puts himself above the club to the detriment of the world champions "If there is no Jackson, there would have been no trouble," Chambliss said over the weekend in Rochester Chambliss. sporting a cast on his right hand, added Martin probably would have survived the season had it not been for Jackson playing his problems off the manager and owner George Steinbrenner. The first baseman acknowledged that Jackson helped the Yankees retain their world championship but said the flamboyant rightfielder-designate- d hitter is not the key to the team's success. "That's what Reggie wants you to believe." Chambliss said. "That's what he has been able to brainwash into the press and people around him. "We might have won everything without him (Jackson). Reggie needs to be the center of attention and sometimes it hurts the club," the usually Chambliss continued. 11 CLEVELAND (90) 7 Russell 7 29, Brewer 3 Chones 6 21. He picked up his sixth open crown one less than the record held by South African Gary Player and the winner's check of $50,000 by closing with a 71 for a tally of 284 after heavy rain stopped play for one hour. Alone in second place at 290 was countryman Ben Crenshaw after shooting a 73 in the final round. Crenshaw won 3)28,000 while the third place purse of $17,650 went to fellow American Bruce Lietzke at 293. Nicklaus notched three birdies in defiance of wind and rain to rank as one of only five players to break par in the final round. "It's the best I've driven the ball since I won the British Open in July," he said. He shot his most spectacular birdie at the third hole, where he holed a bunker shot. 3 6 England Johnson Dallas-Staubac- Dallas-DuPre- e Dorsett 7 7 Newhouse Rrinson - York-Lon- 9 24 21 20 8 !
