"In effect," said Dr. Minton, "we evaluate each hospital's program and help them identify their own particular needs. "We call it the Southern Utah Perinatal Outreach Program," said Dr. Minton, "and we have made 20 visits to hospitals from American Fork to St. George during the past year," he said. The idea of the program, according to Dr. Minton, is to help Utah hospitals. They are simply not large enough to have the specialized staff and sophisticated equipment necessary to deal with complicated, cases. Dr. Steve Minton, Medical Director of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Utah Valley Hospital, recognized this and with a grant from the March of Dimes has established an educational each hospital realize its full potential in caring for pregnant women and their babies. Hospitals visited by Dr. Minton and his team seem to agree that his program has improved the quality of care they are able to deliver. Bob Weidmann, respiratory therapist at Valley View Hospital in Cedar City, enthusiastically endorses Dr. Minton's effort, saying that it helped them to realize the importance of monitors and made it possible to get some new equipment with a March of Dimes grant. Laurel Kay, Director of Nursing at American Fork Hospital also had high priase for the Outreach Program. "It's excellent," she said. "We've learned a great deal about intubation and stabilization for transport. He's a fine educator." Craig Smedley, administrator at Sevier Valley Rail Photo Display photographs by A.J. He says the thieves were apparently just after cash and that the burglars looked into everything, checking files, drawers, and cabinets. All three businesses had the contents of drawers dumped out and items strewn about. "They made a big mess," said Epperson, "but there was no real vandalism." Cash was taken from Parkin Motor Company but the exact amount was not disclosed by police. The investigation is continu- ing. Change was taken from the cash register at Vard's but thieves got nothing at the insurance agency. Epperson says the burglaries probably occurred between midnight and five a.m. He says burglars didn't spend much time in any of the businesses.
