Mr. Utah West Stake president at Hinckley will be released special conference Jane 4. w u H inckleys to Preside Over Mission; Reorganization Of Stake Presidency Set Mr. Hinckley served as bishop of the Sunset Ward for 6 years and high councilman three years before oeing called as the second president of Utah West Stake nearly 17 years ago. President G. Marion Hickley of Utah West Stake and Mrs. Hickley have been called by the First Presidency of the IDS Church to preside over the Colorado-NeMexico Mission headquartered in Denver. Mr. Hinckley will be president of the mission, which encompasses parts of Wyoming and Kansas in addition to all of Colorado and New Mexico. His wife, Nita Johnson Hinckley, will be supervisor of activities of women rind children in the w He is a former Provo mayor and former county commissioner, having served twice as chairman of the commission. In connection with his church duties he is chairman of the Provo Seminary Board of Education, area leader for Deseret Industries and the and Storehouse, Bishop's chairman of the Board of Governors of Utah Valley Hospital. Among other current duties he Is a director of the Beneficial Life Insurance Company, director of the Center Conservancy District, and member of the advisory board for First Security Bank. O.A. Dr. Charles L. Metten, professor of dramatic arts at Brigham Young University, has been chosen by students of the Honors Program as "Honors Professor of the Year." Dr. Metten, who is also associated director of the Honors Program, was chosen on a basis of impact on the students, scholarship, content and communication of his subject, and his example in daily educational opportunity for about 1000 students of exceptional ability. The program offers a special curriculum of small discussion-oriente- By JOSEPHINE ZIMMERMAN PLEASANT GROVE Boys and girls wishing to play tennis this summer in the Central Utah Valley Tennis League are invited to sign up at the Pleasant Grove Junior High School office or the Pleasant Grove High School office before Wednesday, May 10. All boys and girls between the ages of 12 to IS (prior to June 1, 1972) are eligible to participate. Instruction will be given by Vic Chrutensen, Brigham Young University tennis teacher. Mr. Christensen is ranked in both the singles and doubles of the Utah Tennis Association. Instruction and coaching will begin the week of May 15 and will consist of from 10 to 12 lessons before the beginning of league play. There will be a $3 registration fee which will be payable the first class period. Students will be required to furnish their own tennis rackets and two balls. Those signing up will be notified as to their practice times. Bill Hogiund, may be contacted for further information. - One of the local musical organizations which is much in demand for gatherings of all types is the Provo Senior Citizens Harmonica Band. the Provo Senior ere officially Citizens organized under the administration of Kenneth E. Weight Sr., president, Mrs. Lucille Ahlander, member of the Provo City Council on Aging board, was assigned as with music coordinator special emphasis on the band. When Marvin Mitchie was named chairman; Ray Burgess, conductor; Sterling Haws and Elzina Smith, aecompanyists. Prior to this time, a small group of musicians had started performing in 1946 at the Eldred Sunset Hospital, Utah State Hospital, and rest homes in the area. Among the most active members of this group were Fred Jensen, Ray Burgess, Dr. E.J. Fairbanks, Sterling Haws, and Grant Lewis, with Elzina Smith as accompanists. After organization of the Senior many Citizens, members of the organization with musical ability combined their talents on several instruments to form the band. As well as harmonicas, tiiey had & guitar, piano, mandolin, and violin. Elzina Smith instructed classes on the art of the harmonica for beginners for a time. Under the organizations, including Utah County rest homes, Eldred Sunset Manor, American Fork Training School, and other leadership of the Ahlander, organization has gr.wn and now has 22 Tiembers. They are an integral part of the Provo Senior Citizens Mrs. organization, agencies. Each month, the band provides such entertainment for 1189 people, as well as performing on a referral basis for shutins who request their services. The band has played for numerous church and civic functions, and for family reunions. They hav given concerts at the Utah State Fair, a Heber City rest home, and the Salt Lake Senior playing biweekly for matinee dances at Eldred Center, for special dinner programs, and for various other entertainments. The sorority members spent 367 hours tying the quilts and spent about $209 for materials. Mrs. Diane Sorensen is president of the chapter and the project was conducted through the Philanthropic Committee, chaired by Mrs. Maurine Jolley. Provo School Board to Meet Tuesday Night The Provo Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting at when 7:30 p.m. Tuesday members Rulen Hansen and Bliss Crandall will report on the National School Boards Association convention in San Francisco.
