Show S- FOR WALTER .. Secretary of the Interior 2k Jr. .v 25-year-lo- porting the Black Panthers9 cause? Mrs. M. ! Lafce, iY.D. O The Federal government is not involved "in bounty payments. "We do not believe that the use of the bounty system is useful as a wildlife management tool. However, a bounty program still exists in a few states. L., Green Bay, Wis. O I think the times have determined my involvement. When I was a student growenviing up in my white middle-clas- s ronment, it was easy to think this country was working, so one could go about one's own business quite unconcernedly. Today the problems affect us all and are too horrendous to be avoided. If one scrapes the surface of American life and sees what is happening, it's impossible to remain indifferent if one cares at all about our future. FOR WERNHER VON BRAVN, NASA ' Do the astronauts ever carry any type of weapons when they go into space or land on the J?- moon? Ed Debatte, O The astronauts are unarmed. We do not expect to meet hostile beings in space or on the moon. r Joe- Pi. stoma, 1 ix-Zs' f7 I How did you get the ik nir.kname "Broadway I Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration quarterback, New York Jets A I I FOR JOE NAMATH, 1 I How many drugs have Koon t tie on tft fhj .aruZ for what rea- - son? Randy Roll, Zanesvitte, Ohio Q College rules say the ball will be put from the in play at least t, sidelines. Pro rules say it must be at least 60 feet from the side. Hence, stadiums like the Astrodome, which host both college and pro games, have both 53-fee- es markers. tv's "The Virginian" some Westerns there is a certain amount of cruelty to horses? Claire Reenstierna, Charleston, S.C. O Not on my series, for sure. I might add that horses who do falls and other seemingly "painful" tricks are trained for such work. Sawdust and other g material is used for their landing. There is no pain in a horse rearing and some of them, the more spirited ones, seem to love it. fall-breakin- OX O Good breeding is what counts first Then intelligence. After that you worry about other things. FOR DR. RALPH R. LOBENE, V Forsythe DentcJ Center, Boston Is pyorrhea so hard to detect in its early stages that a dentist can9t tell whether a patient has it? Also, what is its principal cause? Roberta Rich, Lansing, Mich. O It is sometimes difficult to detect in its earliest stage. The principal cause of gum disease or pyorrhea is plaque, which is a transparent film of saliva, bacteria, and food particles that sticks to the surfaces and fills the spaces between the teeth and gums. These bacteria produce noxious chemicals that can irritate gums and eventually destroy the bene supporting the teeth. Some early signs of gum disease, or periodontitis, are bleeding, painful or swollen gums that may show changes in color, bad1 breath, and loose teeth. If you have experienced these danger signs, consult your dentist. 9 Want to ask a famous person a question?
