Judge had too much speed and too much power for the Pioneers who tried hard and played well but were simply outmanned by the bigger and faster Bulldog team. Lehi held Judge to a 21-- 7 margin in first half play but the Bulldogs stepped up the tempo in the second half and could not be contained. The Salt Lakers scored in the first minute of play as Dave Dudley took a handoff on the second play from scrimmage and ran 50 yards for the touchdown. Ross Caputo who was a one man wrecking crew for the Bulldogs kicked the extra point and the Bulldogs had a 0 lead before the fans were all seated. Lehi retaliated just moments later on a sustained drive from their own ?0. The first plunge picked up five yards and Eric Chamberlain and Wes Innes followed with drives thai netted a first down. The Pioneers were stopped on the next series but on the kick. Judge fumbled and Lane Wilson recovered for Lehi. A long pass was good to the Bulldog six, and Chamberlain and Innes picked up yardage and Kim Cooper raced around right end for the six pointer. Blake Trane kicked the extra point and the score was tied. Judge scored again before the first period was over. Gary Barber, quarterback, the second half of the Judge Gold Dust twins combination, returned a Lehi kick to the 40 yard line. Ralph Colosimo went off tackle for five yards and Barber took a handoff and ran down the side line for 55 yards and the second Bulldog score. Caputo's kick was good, as usual, and Judge had its lead again. There was just one score in the second quarter. Chris kicked the ball deep into the endzone and Judge began its drive from the 20. Barber took a short pass, picked up a pair of blockers and ran 70 yards for the touchdown, and Caputo kicked the extra point to make the score 7-- seem in perfeci rhythm.
