Utah Sunday, June 7, 1970 Arts and Letters (f - m - m --4 I ""l Summer Theater Underway A talented cast of (Ml Brigham Young University student actors and drama majors began a season of summer stock on June 6 in a large tent theatre at Jackson, Wyo., presenting an e melodrama and a vaudeville act of songs and dances. The venture is under the direction of Buddy Youngreen, producer and director, and Dee Winterton, associate producer and choreographer, who are in their third season conducting a summer stock production at Jackson. Mr. Youngreen, who began his career at BYU, is a former associate professor and director of the Children's Theatre in the famed Pasedena Playhouse Theatre. Mr. Win terton is a member of the BYU n dance faculty and a choreographer. The production this year will e with an begin melodrama "Fanny Girl," with a company of eight BYU students, all of whom have distinguished themselves in college productions. A special tent theatre, seating 250, will be established a mile north of Jackson. Productions will run nightly through Sept. 5 for a 13- week season. The cast includes: Penny Viglione, Amesbury, Mass., who starred in the lead role as Princess Winifred the Woe Begone in the hilarious "Once Upon a Mattress" at BYU this year. Curtain time for each performance is 8:15 p.m. 9-- This special family version of the comedy is under the direction of Dr. Preston Gledhill. The play was first presented on Broadway by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The family's story is told by the oldest daughter, Kathrine, portrayed by Tracy Bedney. The "Mama" of memories is portrayed by Laile Hallows, and Paul Cheesman portrays the father. Some of the colorful characters which come from the young girl's memory include her Uncle Chris, porblustering trayed by George G. King; three whimpering, whining, and bossy aunts, portrayed by Jackie Dorn, Sharla Reese, and Cozy Spitzer, and the undertaker, portrayed by Kent Davis. The production has been purposedly shortened in order to allow families to attend it together. The play was adapted from the book "Mamma's Bank Account," by Kathryn Forbes and has long been a favorite because of the pictures it paints of American family life, and also because of its humor. Other members of the cast include Jeanie McKnight, Dereck Spriggs, Alan Foote, Jo Ann Briggs, Marvin Gardner, Christine Connie Smith, Frederick, Bruce Brown, Carol Roberts, and Willard Michelson. The cast also includes a cat and a car. A 1910 "Grandma Roadster," one of the first Fords built, will make an appearance during the production.
