Students from schools throughout Jordan District are invited to participate, with competition in ten areas of academics, said assistant principal John Worthen. In the afternoon lower grades watched the third grade's presentation of the Safety Kids program, which was presented to the upper grades this morning. Police and paramedics visited the school and brought their vehicles to show the children during the lunch hour. This evening (Thursday) at 7:30 parents are invited to the school to see the third grade present the Safety Kids program and to participate in a program brought to the school by Day Spring. Friday will be physical fitness day and students will be wearing jogging suits, will jump rope and participate in physical fitness activities. , All during the week, the students in the school have been participating in the Drink Your Milk program, which is designed to make students aware of good nutrition measures and to help them not waste food and milk. The school is measuring the amount of milk wasted by the boys and by the girls, and which ever group wins the contest will be able to go first at lunch. The Health Week is sponsored by the PTA under the direction of Principal Brent Palmer and President Cheryl Fisher with Sherry Morton, chairman. Lil self-estee- Madir on Visits Westvale tates WEST JO.nJAN. United Constitution signer, James Madison, portrayed by Ray Kartchner, made a visit to Westvale elementary school on Nov. 18th. He presented a program to fourth through sixth grade students concer- ning the Constitution and depicted life in Colonial times for them. The presentation coincided with if! he I their study of the Constitution which has been emphasized during this Centennial year. Dressed in a specially made costume and wig to bring to life the character of James Madison, Mr. Kartchner captivated the attention of the students, said Pam Balls, spokeswoman. She said, "He talked about the way the colonial children lived, the clothing they wore, the uses of a padstool and the dle, the three-legge- d Constitution." ,;,. r Mr. Kartchner is the Social Studies Specialist for Granite School District and is a teacher at Cottonwood high school. He also works with the District's "Close Up" program which sends students to Washington D.C. to attend Congress sessions and workshops, and taught a workshop the past three summers in Williamsburg, Virginia. He has studied the life of James Madison intensively through research in Williamsburg, where James Madison's home was located.
