Show 9 ir Ik MA ft o) Thursday, November THE GREEN SHEET 19, 1987 H . Duo Promoted At Bacchus MAGNA. Jack L. McCord, director of product engineering at the ABL Hercules Aerospace Bacchus Works since October 1986, has been named Director of Safety Product Assurance, according to vice president and resident manager, David E. Thompson. McCord replaces Elmer C. Graesser who was recently appointed vice president and resident manager at McGregor, Texas. Replacing him as director of product engineering will be John P. Brown, product engineering manager of design and analysis. Paul E. Christensen replaces Mr. Brown as design and analysis manager. McCord has nearly 30 years aerospace engineering and management experience. He started at Her-cul- Alleghany Ballistics Laboratory on Polaris and came to Bacchus as group supervisor on Poseidon. He headed up MX (now Peacekeeper) engineering before becoming product engineering manager in 1984. Brown has an extensive aerospace technical background. He started at 26 years ago on Polaris engineering and since coming to Bacchus 14 years ago has been Air Force projects manager on Peacekeeper and Small ICBM. He became design and analysis manager a year ago and was technical volume manager for the successful Titan IV proposal. Mr. Christensen has 17 years of aerospace technical experience, joining Hercules here on thermodynamics analysis. He has been involved in Peacekeeper engineering and has headed case analysis since 1984. Hercules Aerospace already is expanding the newly opened Bacchus West propulsion plant near Magna and its' filament winding plant at Clearfield for development and production of strap-o- n Graphite Epoxy Motors for the new Delta II space vehicle. Thompson said the 28,000 square foot case preparation building at Bacchus West is being expanded with a 114x50 foot addition for motor case spray and cure rooms. Completion is scheduled for later this year. In addition, a new large hydrotest . bay to accommodate the cases is being completed at the Clearfield plant. Mr. Thompson said the spray booth will house a case bond liner system spray robot. The new robot from Vadeko in Toronto, Canada, will prepare the case liner by buffing and decreasing, spray the surface and inspect its own work. Contractor for the new addition located on the south side of the existing building is Weyher Brothers of Salt Lake City. Mr. Thompson said the large autoclave housed in the Case Prep building will be put into operation. He pointed out that these projects are just the beginning of a $100 million plus expansion now on the drawing boards for the Titan IV space booster program. Concrete and steel work are finished on the new Clearfield hydrotest which bay, extends 24 feet underground, and plans call for testing to begin shortly. This bay and others being used for Small ICBM, Peacekeeper and SRAM are being tied into a new pressurization system capable of up to 3,000 psi and to 5,000 on smaller high pressure units. There is something soothing about taking an herbal remedy instead of going to the doctor for a cold needle in the rump or a prescription you can't read for a drug you can't pronounce.
