It's hard to lose an outstanding player like Steve Schreiner, but Brighton basketball coach Duke Reid can take comfort in the fact four other starters are returning. "We feel we have eight people who could start for us," noted coach Reid, "and just who'll get the nod Friday night, we're not sure." Despite the fact the Bengals do have a lot of players coming back off their title team of a year ago, Reid isn't predicting an easy course this season. "While all this was going on, I was on the sidelines wondering just how bad a team had ever been beaten in a state championship game," Berry joked. "No, seriously, a coach always wants to believe his team can fight back, but when Olympus picked up that score in thir,d period it it kind of sealed it for them." Despite the lopsided score, Berry did have praise for three defensive players, linebacker Roger Taylor, defensive lineman Eric Knowles and free safety Steve Hardy. "Sure it's tough to lose a state championship game," Berry concluded. "But, I'd rather get to the championship and lose than never get there at all. We picked up a gold trophy last year and a silver one this year and I think that's pretty darn good." To Coach Long, the contest was not only a win for Olympus, but all for Region Three. "We feel good about having beaten the three top teams in Region Two, plus the Region Onechampf he said. "I think you'd agree, we play some pretty good football in our league." they want to repeat this year. Bingham and Alta, which also returned a lot of talent, are two of the teams that could derail those plans, according to Reid.
