An opportunistic Olympus defense grabbed seven Alta passes and gobbled up four Hawk fumbles to spark an unexpected 3 rout of the defending 4A state champions Friday and give the Titans their first state crown. The margin of the Olympus victory left people on boths sides of the field shaking their heads, even Olympus coach Louie Long. "We expected a tight game," he SALT 39-1- -- 51 .2 : ; Olympus was up 14-- and the Hawks were in trouble. "We're best when we can run, give the ball to (Mark) Frkovich and play ball control," stated Alta coach Doug Berry. "But, that big early lead took us out of our game plan. When a defense knows what you've got to do, you've got problems." Long noted that he did send in seven defensive backs in passing situations, which got to be more and commented later. "But, we felt that if we could get them in a hole where they had to abandon their running game, we could control them." Control them they did. According to Long, the key to the contest may have been the first Olympus touchdown, set up by a fumble recovery. "I feel we've got a good team here," stated Sluga. "We're not tall on size or experience, except for Peck, but there's a good feeling about the coming season. We'll have to get some games under our belts to really know for sure." According to Sluga, Brighton is an obvious choice as one of the teams to watch in Region Two. For years there was a Colosimo on the Judge Memorial football team until this season when the string of Magna cousins was ex- hausted. However, there will be a Colosimo figuring heavily in the school's future grid success. John Colosimo has been named head football coach at the school in the wake of the resignation by Coach Frank L'Etoile. Colosimo, a 1974 Judge graduate and member of the unbeaten state footbball championship team, was named Wednesday. He has served on the Bulldog grid staff since 1979 as defensive coordinator, special teams coach, jayvee coach and has coached both lines. He is also a former head girls basketball coach and was a Green Sheet Coach of the Year selection twice. He now serves as an jayvee and sophomore coach in the boys basketball program, a position head coach Jim Yerkovich says he hopes Colosimo will keep. The new head man is a math teacher and a graduate of the University of Utah.
