It was ImimsHihlo to nerve h on Juror Rook, who made the suhporn.t aflld.tlt as ALUiNfc. report rcachoa Salt Lake today to the effect that the Western Pacific railroad, now building from San Francisco to Salt Lake, and the Moffat road, building here from Denver, are being backed by the great Burlington company. The report seems to be of the same character as the many that have on surmise. As has often preceded it, inasmuch as it is merely bas-ein been published The Telegram, the incorporators of ;he Western Pacific, most of whom are San Francisco capitalists, represent an aggregate wealth of more than ? 100,000,000, so the success of the project does not depend on the backing of George J. Gould, J. Pierpont Morgan, J. J. Hill, or any of the great railroad magnates. Speculation as to the route by tlV Denver, Noi th western & Pacific railroad, popularly known as the Moffat road, wiil enter Salt Lake is set at rest, according to the statement of a Moffat engineer to The Telegram todas. A. O. Ridgeway, general manager of the company and president of the Colorado & Utah Construction company, which was organized for the express purpose of building the road, in company with H. A. Sumner, chief engineer of the road and the constr iction company as well, yesterday completed a trip, says the engineer, .via the line from Denver to Heber, the terminus of the Heber branch of th Rio Grande, the Provo canyon. Upwhich iravc-rst--s on their arrival at that point after having carefully considered every detail of the survey recently completed by T. M. Bah d, engineer in charge of a party that has been working for some time Summit, twenty miles east of He-1e- r. anil that point. General Manager Ridgeway said positively that the route Is satisfactory in every respect, and forthwith adopted it finally. be-Jfwe- en Salt Lake Is Interested. i nc ae He brings the welcome, although expected- word that General Manager un- Kidgeway and Chief Fnginecr Sumner have arrived on the scene. They were at Heber last night, and as Mr. Webb was taking his departure for Salt Lake told him that.the line had been accepted with a few minor changes. Across Strawberry Valley. Mr. Ridgeway and Mr. Sumner will leave Heber today and go back along the 'ine over the summit and across the Strawberry valley to the second o sum mit, which lies close to the State line. They will confer with the engineers in charge of three parties working east of the Wasatch summit, and will return to Heber, and thence to this city. If their present plans do not miscarry, they will arrive here about October 17th. Offices will b" secured and headquarters of the construction company established here for the purpose of carrying on the work of this end cf the road. According to a statement made by Mr. Ridgeway in the presence of Mr. Webb, grading will be commenced fit Heber by November 1st of this year, and. the satne general plan that is being carried out at the other end of the line, to work a'l the men that hat of putting . cured, w ill also be put into ef-f- e t an be t at this end. Easy Grade to Summit. The grade from Heber to the summit as established by the survey will be I1!' per cent. The elevation where the road crosses the summit is 99!e" feet. There are now four parties of surveyors working on the road In Utah, the two nearest to Salt Lake being in charge of T. M. Baird and J. H. McCoy, and there are two other parties coming on from Denver. It is the general belief of the engineers with whom Mr. Webb is associated that Moffat line trains will be running into Salt Lake by the end cf lf'O.'i. The Rio Grande tracks will be used from Heber to Salt Lake.
