DIEGO, (UPI) Joseph Meske, 52, was released from Sharp Memorial Hospital today, six? weeks to the day after his hand was severed by a punch press. j Meske's hand was reconnected in what could be the first successful operation of its type in medical history. . , The. hand was reported in good condition and the .patient was out of bed and ready to return to his Oceanside, Calif., home before the doctor signed the release. Meske must return to the hospital in two or three weeks for operations to connect the nerves and tendons of the left hand and wrist.
