A new program was in operation this year for the first time, with no points being given, and there-for-e, no team championships being awarded, but . ribbons being given to the first five place winners in each event, in. a great display of mass student participation. Separate Meets Separate meets were conducted for Seventh Grades, Eighth Grades, some Ninth Grade activities, and full programs in Junior High- - and Senior High Boys Track and Field 'V Events. While no .championships were determined there was no question but' that the powerful Pleasant Grove Vikings walked off with more than their fair share of the awards. In Senior competition they captured nine blue ribbons, leaving two each for Orem. American ' ' Fork and Lehi. In".Junior High competition the G rovers walked off with five first places, with Lincoln of .Orem trailing with three, and Lehi and American Fork breasting the tape first in one event each. Only one . record was broken during the day, with Lowell1 Smith, Pleasant Grove senior high athlete, smashing his own mark, set up last year, in the 880 Yard Run. He made the two laps in 2:03.7, erasing the '1957 mark of 2:04.9, , made over the same, course last i m M . j i . ..... year. Lincoln Netters Win Keith" Trane's Lincoln Junior High School netters swept all but one event In the singles and doubles tennis competition. They took singles and doubles in Ninth Grade and again in Eighth Grade competition, and captured singles in Seventh Grade, while dropping ' doubles to American Fork. Paul Allen, Pleasant Grove, was the. top individual winner of the day, chalking up blue -- ribbons in the century, the furlong, the broad jump, besides running anchor on the second place Viking 880 Yard Relay team. One of the top features of the day was the demonstration put on by the various Pep Clubs of the Senior and Junior High Schools in the opening ceremonies marking the afternoon performance. March-in- g and precision drills were highly pleasing to the large and. appreciative audience. The Summaries: Seventh Grade ' Ronald Boys 50 Yard Dash LaMar Lincoln; Lehi; Peck, Gagon.
