Show B-8 The Park Record Scene & Heard Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues, October 6-9, 2018 Photos by Tanzi Propst Adding a pinch of cricket The Art and Science of Arachnids, the newest exhibit at the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter, features a variety of spiders and scorpions alongside interactive learning activities covering arachnids and their place both in culture and the ecosystem. Each Thursday, attendees are treated to a glimpse at the feeding process — EcoCenter workers feed a few live crickets and fresh water to each arachnid. Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter staffer Hunter Klingensmith, left, uses giant tweezers to remove live crickets from an emperor scorpion’s enclosure after accidentally releasing too many into the terrarium as Rhea Cone, middle, and Leslie Roberts help with the enclosure’s lid and lighting. An emperor scorpion dines on a live cricket in its enclosure during feeding time. These scorpions, native to Africa, are popular in Hollywood for their size, coloring and calm demeanor. They are reluctant to pinch, even more reluctant to sting and possess a mild venom. A green blue bottle tarantula sits motionless atop its web as it waits for its prey to come near during feeding day. Leslie Roberts, a staff assistant, mists the enclosure of a Brazilian salmon pink tarantula after feeding it a ration of two crickets and refilling its water dish. 30%-50% off* Perennials, shrubs & trees *exclusions apply Park City Nursery is having a Fall Sale!!
