Show The Park Record Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues, December 17-20, 2016 Solstice is a time for reflection Event will be held at HeartSpace By SCOTT IWASAKI The Park Record The Winter Solstice -- also known as Hibernal Solstice, Midwinter, Yule and Joi -- is commonly referred to as the longest night or shortest day of the year. For Jennifer Mulholland, the co-leader of Plenty Consulting, an organization that connects like-minded and creative people through retreats and programs, Winter Solstice is a time for personal reflection. “Even though it’s the longest night, it’s a day when we turn our heads towards the light,” Mulholland said during an interview with The Park Record. “It is a time when we turn our attention not to only illuminating ourselves, but illuminating the goodness.” To facilitate Mulholland’s idea, Plenty Consulting will host a Winter Solstice celebration from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at HeartSpace, its retreat center located at 4343 S.R. 224, Suite 203. “We have been holding Winter Solstice celebrations for more than 15 years in Park City now, and this is an opportunity for us to connect the community consciously around the tradition,” Mulholland said. “This is an annual gathering where we take people and families to beautiful reflection to help them recognize what is emerging inside of them, and what they are growing into during the year to come. “The solstice is a day that maximizes the darkness, and we are literally in the womb of birthing what is to become the New Year,” she said. “It’s a day when the sun stands still. It’s a tipping point or a turning point where we can shift into an emergence of a new chapter in our lives for ourselves, our loved ones, our community and our planet.” The event will feature a presentation by Mulholland and her coleader Jeff Shuck. “We will facilitate conversa- Courtesy of Plenty Plenty Consulting leaders Jeff Shuck, left, and Jennifer Mulholland, will facilitate a Winter Solstice celebration at HeartSpace on Dec. 21. tion, reflection, inspiration and experience for people of all ages who need to take a timeout to be creative in their desire to step forth in what they want to intend,” Mulholland said. “Like how Plenty does everything, we connect people heart-to-heart, and mindto-mind.” The presentations are designed to inspire, connect and support all who attend as they look to new opportunities in the future. “We feel there is a lot of focus on what is not working, the separation, competition and judgment of what’s happing in our world today,” Mulholland explained. “We feel the answers lie in focusing on goodness and what is working. And we can do that by turning our attention to the light of the sun, nature, good and the light of our hearts. “As we go on with our lives, we sometimes feel like we are on a hamster wheel, always going, always giving,” she said. “The solstice is a time to reset and receive the in-breath of the Earth. When we do that, we receive the life force that makes it possible to give.” In addition, the celebration will include live music, light fare and refreshments. “We will present Native American flute medicine performed by Dallas Brown,” Mulholland said. “He has eight different flutes that are incredible healing tools.” Acoustic guitarist Gary Rogers will also perform. “He is a beautiful musician and will sing as well,” Mulholland said. The cost of admission is by donation, and the money will be donated to local charities. “Plenty is on a mission to inspire, connect and support idealists to create the largest global community of people to share what works to make themselves and this world a better place,” Mulholland said. “The Winter Solstice celebration is beautiful tradition to honor the changes and cycles of the Earth and within ourselves.” Plenty Consulting will host a Winter Solstice ceremony from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at HeartSpace, 4343 S.R. 224, Suite 203. Cost is by donation. For more information, visit www.plentyconsulting.com/ winter-solstice-ceremony-2016.
