The average daily high was 65.8, compared to a normal of 67.8 degrees. The average nightly low was 43.3 degrees while the normal is 40 degrees. The highest temperature was 84 degrees on Oct. 9 while the lowest was 34 degrees on Oct. 31. As mentioned in Tuesday's column, it was the third wettest October in Provo's recorded weather history and records date back to 1889. A total of 4.96 inches of moisture were recorded. The average is 2.03 inches. A total of 16.02 inches of precipitation have fallen since Jan.1, The average to date is 16.69 inches. Only a trace of snow was noted on Oct. 29 and 31. Among those players was Montreal's Pierre Dagenais, who has said he wrxild he wiTKnff to disnhpv the union and accept a salary cap if that would help settle the lockout. - Dagenais, one of a few players who has criticized the union's position, said he found the meeting informative but did not retract his comments. . 1 think everyone knows what I said. I just came here to learn a httle bit more. I did learn,'' the Canadiens forward said. The meeting at an airport ho tel was billed as a routine update on the labor dispute so player representatives could brief their teammates. But the meeting took on greater importance following recent comments by union members Dagenais, Mike Conrnodore, Brian Pothier and Rob Ray. San Jose Sharks forward Vin-ceDamphousse, a union vice president, invited Dagenais to the meeting. He said Dagenais is nt iKJWonboard. ' "I'm very confident that all the guys are on board," Damp-houss- e said. . ' The players met for about four hours Tuesday, after having dinner together on Monday right. The meeting included player representatives from all 30 clubs and other players who wanted to attend. NHLPA executive director Bob Goodenow said there was no "crack or divisiveness'' in the union. He said no new proposals would be made to the league as a result of the meeting. He's waiting for the league to make a new proposal. "I'm hopeful that there will be a season, but I have to teO you, there's a good chance there wont be," Goodenow said. Bill Daly, the NHL's chief legal officer, said no new proposal would be fforthcoming from the league. He said the union's latest offer wasnt that different from a proposal they rejected 15 months prior. "We certainly dont feel it's incumbent on us to offer anything new at this point, Daly said. The NHL regitfar season was due to begin Oct. 13, but games are being canceled by teams on ' a y rolling basis. During the las negotiating session in Toroqto on Sept. 9, the NHLPA proposed a luxury systerk that was rejected by the leak ue. The NHL wants a systemjhat guarantees "cost certan.jwhicn the players association says is akin to a salary cap a solution it refuses to accept.
