Dr. Robert A. Norton, assistant professor of horticulture at Utah State Agricultural College, cautioned today that apples left on trees too long may develop a condition known as water core. He explained that with this condition apples look perfect from the outside but that the flesh is glassy or watery in appearance particularly: around the core. "They are good if. eaten right away. But they break down on storage." Because of the early ripening, due to the dry season and abnormally high temperatures; apples may not take on as high coloring as usual. "However, .if growers wait to get the color it may be too late," Dr. Norton said.
