Farnsworth, resident ojf the1 city and former zone manager of a grocery store chain at Abilene, Tex., will assume his duties as city manager Monday. He will lie the administrator, working, under the super vision of the city council which will act as a policy making hoard. Mr. Farnsworth was selected by the city ' council for the position from a field of 18 applicants. In becoming the first Utah County city to adopt the r plan of municipal government, Orem folluws the route of some 1150 other .cities and counties in tho United States, who have turned to the manager ' plan for increased efficiency and economy. The manager setup should work out splendidly in Orem. The responsibility in this city have e a until in the past severabyears grown steadily administrator has been badly needed. The mayor and councilmen have had to spend more and more time carry ing out city duties; yet they have drawn only nominal r salaries, Orem has been blessed with some fine leaders in the past men who have placed public service above financial remuneration. But with the city's growth, the situation got pretty much out of hand so that the mayor, for example, almost hacTto forsake his own persona) occupation to handle the administrative affairs of the city. The new city manager seems to possess excellent Qualifications, particularly with respect to his back ground in business, his leadership, and his ability to work with other people. Working closely with the elected city council, he should be able to bring; to the city a new level admimstra of efficiency, economy, and forward-lookin- g O.
