Fiery furnaces, huge crushers, and rows of froth flotation cells were inspected by 71 chemistry and physics students during a trip to Bingham and Magna, May 5, under the supervision of instructor R. S. Peterson. Purpose of the trip was to help high school stu dents to understand the chemical industry. During the tours of the Bing- ham open pit, precipitation plant, Garfield refinery, and Magna mills, guides took special cart to show the visitors every process Involved in the technical extraction of pure copper from seemingly waste rock. A humorous incident occurred in the Bingham tunnel on the return trip from the pit. Jordan buses met a string of 13 cars coming from the opposite direction. After a short period of indecision, the automobile drivers gave in and backed up, allowing the Digger coaches to proceed regally through.
