F. Stephensen with a testimonial and social, in appreciation of his many years of service. Mr Stephensen has taught the Adult class in Riverton for over 25 years. He was recently released from his Sunday School to serve as a missionary in the West Jordan stake. He will be accompanied in his new duties by his wife, Hazel. Every-onwho has ever been a member of his classes is invited to attend the social. e SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO HELEN THAXTON Dr. R. Hayes of the University of Utah, school faculty, announced last week that the annual Orchesisin trt w the Colorado ColhJUlUiai Colorado at Springs, has been lege awarded, to Miss neien inaxwn, daughter of Mr & Mrs George Thaxton of Riverton. Miss Thaxton, a junior at the University of Utah and a dance major, will attend the Colorado College this summer and continue her study of dancing. Miss Hunya Holm, world famous dancer from Germany will be in attendance and will participate in the very fine classes in dancing offered by the college. The Riverton First ward Sunday School and YMMIA have recently been reorganized with Orr L. Hill replacing Allen Stocking as Superintendent, while Earl Maynard and Doyle Nokes have been named first and second assistants. Miss Jane Crane will continue as Sunday School secretary. All of the above are Sunday School officers. In the YMMIA Grant Page will replace Melvin Berrett as president. Calvin Osborne will be first counselor and Fred Densley second counselor. Emery Berrett will continue to occupy the position of secretary. Mrs Mable Freeman and Mrs Mary Egbert entertained at a luncheon last Friday for a group of friends. The party was held at the Egbert home. Mrs. Harry Sandstrom announces the marriage of her daughter, Diane and Harlan Dale Farley, son of Mrs Maud Farley of Pullman, Wash., on Monday, May 11. After a short honeymoon trip in Washington, where they will visit Mr. Farley's relatives, they will travel to Pendleton, Ore., where they will make their home. Seaman Robert Silcox left Saturday for San Francisco, where he will rejoin his ship the USS Blue. Robert has been attending the Gunner's Mate School in Md., since January. He will leave for Korea sometime next month. Robert has been in the service for 28 months and has made two former trips to Korea, spending 15 months in Korean waters. He spent his recent furlough visiting with his parents, Mr & Mrs Austin Silcox and other members of his family here in Riverton. On Wednesday the Columbine Flower club of Riverton visited the gardens of Mrs Elva Bowen in Murray. They enjoyed a luncheon at the Blue Cottage in East Mid-val- e June 1, with Mrs Wilma Hess as guest speaker. Mrs Hess will tell about her experiences in France last year as an exchange student. Lady Lions will be guests. The public is also invited to attend this very interesting program, which will be held in the Riverton school at 8 o'clock. An excellent program has been prepared which will include two songs by the stake Singing Mothers. All Relief Society members are invited. Mr & Mrs Deno Seal, Mr & Mrs Vere Densley and Mr & Mrs Beckstead were among the lucky people who attended the Smorgasbord dinner party given by Mr & Mrs Lionel Brady at their lovely home in Sandy. Mr & Mrs Jack Smith entertained at a family dinner party on May 18, honoring his mother, Mrs. Mabel Smith who was celebrating her birthday anniversary. Mrs. Anna May Sandstrom was hostess to the members of her family on Mother's Day at a family dinner. Those present were Mr & Mrs C. H. Sandstrom and son, Michael, of Salt Lake, Miss Diane Sandstrom and Harlan Farley of Pendleton, Ore. The Gold Star Mother's luncheon given by the American Legion Auxiliary of Midvale last week-enwas attended by three Riverton Gold Star Mothers, Mrs. George J. Bills, Mrs. Delia Bills and Mrs. William Cowdell. Other ladies present from Riverton were Mrs Mary Crane, Mrs Eliza Reynolds, Mrs Blanche Densley, Mrs. Sarah Henderson and Mrs Grace Thaxton. Leon Butterfield, son of Mr & Mrs Russell Butterfield, is recovering from an attack of pneumonia. His illness prevented his departure for the armed services. Mr & Mrs George Thaxton will leave May 29, by bus, on the Sons of Utah Pioneers Trek to the dedication of the Mormon Pioneer Memorial Bridge at Omaha, Neb., on Monday, June 1. The bridge is on the site of the old Mormon ferry which carried thousands of pioneers and their teams and wagons across the Missouri River. President David O. McKay will dedicate the bridge. The bus chartered by the Trekkers will return on June 4. Mr tc Mrs Herschel Egbert entertained at a dinner Sunday for the family of Mrs. Egbert. Those present were Dr. it Mrs J. L Hansen, Mr & Mrs Wiley Hansen and Mrs John Hansen of Salt Lake and Mr & Mrs Del Shomaker and children of Riverton. Dinner guests at the home of Mr & Mrs Stanley R. Anderson on Sunday, May 24. included Dr & Mrs Richard Haskins and son, who recently moved to Salt Lake from Lincoln, Neb., where Dr Haskins attended Dental College, Mr & Mrs Julian B. Fox and children of Orem, and Mrs Linda J. Myrup of Gunnison. Mrs Harry Sandstrom was among the honored guests at a banquet on Friday evening at the home of Mrs Martha McDpugal in Salt Lake. The banquet honoring the lady employees of the Eion House in Salt Lake was attended by 17 ladies. Mr & Mrs Leon Densley announce the arrival of a new little son born to them on May 17th in the LDS hospital. Grandparents waiting to join in the celebration are Mrs Emma Densley of Riverton and Mr & Mrs Orson Beular of Salt Lake. The baby has a big sister to help welcome him home. Bain-bridg- Mr & Mrs Elmo Hamilton returned home on Sunday from a 9 day trip to Nogales, Mexico. Mr Hamilton, who is president of farm labor foe --San Lake County, went to Mexico to secure men to work on the various farms in this area where such labor is needed. A chartered Lewis Bros, bus brought 33 laborers from Nogales to Salt Lake County. On the return "trip Mr. & Mrs Hamilton visited Mr & Mrs Austin Simper in Fredonia, Ariz., and Mr & Mrs Guy Anderson in Safford, Ariz.
