It is believed that about fifteen per cent of the state's land area is suitable habitat for these birds. Original plants in the wild were made at two sites only a year ago. Success of these plants is evidenced by the broods of young counted at these sites during the past summer. It is known that these young birds raised in the wild have a much better chance to survive and reproduce than the original plants that were raised in captivity. Chukars have now been released into a total of 13 areas in the state. A continuation of this program during 1953 will find many new area being planted along with supplemental releses of birds into these already stocked. GUN ROD FISH & GAME DEPT.
