Show WAGE INCREASES FOR KENNECOTT WORKERS NOTED Approximately $123,000 a month will be added to the income of the Salt Lake County area this summer when employees of the Utah Copper Cop-per Division, Kennecott Copper Corp., receive wage increases and fringe benefit improvements specified speci-fied in their current contracts. Some 4,300 employees in eleven local unions will receive an additional addi-tional $83,000 a month beginning July I. The remaining 2,100 employees, em-ployees, members of eight other local unions whose contract anniversary anni-versary date is July 31, will receive a combined $40,000 per month beginning August 1. The increases in wages and fringe benefits were included in labor settlements set-tlements reached by the copper company and unions representing its employees early this year, following fol-lowing a strike which idled the Division's operations for nearly six months. Total loss to the state during dur-ing the strike in wages, taxes and supply purchases was reported to be over 58 million dollars. Of this, $16,377,000 was in wages. Average increases under terms of the agreement will amount to approximately $14.90 per employee in wages. Improvements in health and welfare benefits, vacation allowances, al-lowances, overtime payments and other considerations bring the total to-tal average increase to about $19.25 per employee per month. |
