Show . EARLY TRAILS MAP ISSUED BY STATE Utah's early-day trails are shown in detail on a colorful new Historical Histor-ical Trails map recently completed by the Utah Tourist & Publicity Council. Purpose of the map is to give Utah visitors a graphic picture of the state's exciting historical background, and thus encourage them to stay longer. D. James Cannon, director of the,, Council, announced that the new map io one of the mot attractive attrac-tive publications ever produced in Utah. Trails, topographical relief, and illustrations are printed in full color, with more than 30 different shades of color appearing on the map. Descriptive text was written by Dale Morgan, well known Utah historian. TraiOa on the map date from the Escalante-Dominguez expedition of 1776 to the Hole-in-the-Rock trek of 1879-80. Twenty-eight trails arc included, each in a different color for ease of reading. This method of showing trails is a radical departure de-parture from the usual map, according accor-ding to Mr. Cannon. Illustrations, drawn by William Johnson, show historical subjects such as the fur trappers, Indians, Mormon pioneers, and Pony Express Ex-press riders. Intended primarily for out-of-state distribution, the map is available avail-able to Utah residents for a small charge. . |
