Show Personnel office moves into the future by SSgt. Barbara Fisher Hilltop Times staff Visitors to the Consolidated Base Personnel Office in Bldg. 180 can't help but notice the mess and confusion. Desks and other furniture line the hallways, some offices are torn apart, literally, and no one's where they're supposed to be. It's going to be that way probably for another two or three months. The good news, however, is that out of this chaos will come a personnel operation that not only operates in a modern, pleasant setting, but one that will serve its customers better, says Maj. Deborah Davis, the chief of CBPO. e One reason for the present confusion is a renovation project for Bldg. 180. This has caused several personnel specialists to move their offices to new locations in the building while their rooms are being renovated. Phone numbers have also changed because of the moves. If that's not enough, Hill AFB will receive a new computer system in December 1992 Personnel Concept III that will cause very major changes to the personnel career field. PC-II- I is a computer system designed to make it easier for military members to do personnel trans long-overdu- actions. Davis said in the future, military personnel offices will feature a much smaller staff of personnel program managers. All routine actions will be taken care of by personnel specialists in orderly rooms who are all tied with the main personnel together through PC-II- I tomers will have to learn where to go. Even though the PC-II- I system was designed before the downsizing of the force, it fits in years nicely with it, Davis said. "The long range objective is to significantly reduce the size of CBPO after the system is implemented," Davis said. The personnel PAT team decided it would be best for everyone to go ahead and reorganize along the lines of the new computer system now so that customers would be familiar with it before December office. "When the system comes on line," Davis said, "you'll be able to do certain actions, like updating your address data, changing your dream sheet or inquiring about your records by going to your orderly room." 1992. Other actions, like outbound assignments and airman and officer evaluations, will still be handled at the main personnel section, but orderly rooms will "When PC-II- I comes on line it's going to be a jolt to us and our customers who'll have to learn where to go for help," said SMSgt. Dana Bixby, the of CBPO. "If we reconfigured our offices at about the same time, it would really be chaotic. "Changing now will let us learn how to work together under the new configuration so that all we'll have to do is become familiar with the system side when it comes on line. We'll already be formed " up as teams as we will under So while there's some confusion at the personnel office now, Bixby and Davis ask for patience on everyone's part. "When you visit CBPO, don't get disgruntled," Bixby said. "If you can't find what you're looking for, ask somebody. We're more than willing to help and point you in the right direction." be the starting point for most personnel actions. While changing over to the computer system is still more than a year away, Davis and her people formed a process action team to look at how the renovation and the coming computer system change could be handled so customers would be least inconvenienced. PC-II- I calls for a reorganization of personnel into fewer, smaller sections that handle more than one area of concern. For example, the promotions section joins with special actions and joins with separations. This means that not only will CBPO people have to become specialists in more than one area, but cus NCO-in-charg- e PC-III.- NEWSlBRIEFS Thrift Savings Plan open season Open season for making changes to federal civilian thrift savings plan options is Nov. 15 through Jan. 25, 1992.
