Show New Utah! - Wednesday, September 22, 1999 - Page 14 O BITUARIES Maurice Howes Maurice John Howes, 82, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, died in his sleep September 16, 1999, in Lem, He Utah. born was T 1 September Alberta, Canada, to Albert Clyde Sara and Elizabeth -- Jones ' - Howes. He was the fourth of sister five children with one and three brothers. Maurice attended school in Magrath to the eighth grade when he needed to work to help provide for his family. He loved music and played the banjo and the harmonica in a dance band for the local weekly dances. His life has been one full of work as a rancher, farmer, miner in his youth. He worked on the railroad in Alaska at the age of 16. He came to the United States as a young man, served in the CC Camp and in the US Army being a veteran of WWII. married Mary Maurice for and all eternity time Fugal in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 21, 1956. He was a loving and caring husband, father, James on February 21, in 1926, Sunnyside, His Utah. parents were Elden W. and Elsie Johnson Bills. He married Kathryn Joyce Mitchell on March 27, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. He took special pride in his children and grandchildren. He loved his country and served valiantly in World War II in the Navy. He was involved in many careers in his lifetime. He worked for Kennecott as a He had the pipefitter. Servicemaster business in the Provo area for 30 years. He restored Scrappy's in Charleston to a beautiful, clean cafe known as Lakeside Cottage, which Kathy and he ran for several years. He recently served a mission in Nauvoo, Illinois, restoring precious historical artifacts for the Bills September from cancer, at his home supported and comforted by his family. He is survived by a daughter, Susan (Doug) Conway, a son, Steven (Linda) Howes, all of Pleasant Grove; 14 grandchildren; 15 Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brothers; his wife, Mary; a daughter, Christi Beth; a son, David and his wife, Mary Ann; a grandson, Adam David born February 3, George and Franklin n. Howes. Funeral were services Monday, September 20, 1999, in the Timpanogos First Ward LDS Chapel, Pleasant Grove. Interment was at Pleasant Grove City Cemetery under the direction of Wing Mortuary, Lehi, and military honors by theVFW. Sunday, 19, Sept. He was a man who understood life; lived it fully, and made everyone feel like they were his best friend. He shared his love and his sense of humor with all those around him. He had the touch of the Master's hand, bringing out the best in people and items which he touched. His survivors are his wife, Kathryn, of American Fork; children, James Craig (Ann) Bills, Neola; Vicky Lynn (John) Capua, American Fork; Becky Sue (Jeff) Sanderson, American Fork; 20 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter; 1 brother, Joe Bills, Salt Lake City; and 1 sister, Marba Skola, Murray. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cloe Crist. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Hillcrest Stake Center. Marie was born Feb. 2, 1919, in Ogden, the Utah, eldest child of Ruel Clifton and Mary Smeding Hayden. She married Robert Cecil Williams in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept. 3, 1943. On September 3, 1999, they celebrated their ggth we(j(jing anniversary. from Marie graduated Ogden High School, Weber College, and Utah State University. Cecil and Marie resided in Ogden and Farr West, Utah until 1953 when they moved with their family to Nampa, Idaho. They lived in Nampa until 1986. Following an LDS mission, they settled in Alpine, Utah. Marie taught elementary Utah and Idaho, and was an accomplished pianist school in and organist. An active member of the LDS Church, she served in many church positions in Ogden, Farr West, and Nampa. From 1986-8- 7 she and loves us. had for his family, relatives and friends. He was born July 30, 1946 in Lehi to Durwa'rd 1 i Junius in any way, we are truly grateful. We are grateful for the loving care given by her doctors and nurses at Utah Valley Medical Center, Regional Health South and Heritage Rehab. On April 22, 1949, Barbara married Keith LaNoal Carrell in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and settled in Orem, Utah. They were blessed with six children. Her life was centered around her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and sister. She was a friend to ereryone she met. She had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ that she loved to share with others. She loved to serve others and magnified every calling she received. She was an artist and School District for 14 yearsj touching the lives of many. They lived in Virginia, California, Colorado, Salt Lake City, and settled in American Fork in 1958. Served at American Fork Hospital as a Pink Lady, involved in PTA, scouting and in later years worked at local Johnson, and brother-in-la- w Ferdinand (Johnny) Johnson. Funeral services were held Saturday September 18, 1999 10 a.m. in the at Developmental Center LDS Chapel. Internment was in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Idaho. He married Merry Buckwalter on March 29, 1963 and they started their new home in American Fork. He coached Bantam Basketball for 21 years, and he also coached LDS girls basketball and softball teams for several years. He loved his family so much and would do anything for them. Life without him is hard to imagine. He loved family vacations, attending theater and movies with his family, BYU sports (especially women's volleyball), AF marching band, and working in his yard. He planted a lovely garden and lots of trees, and created a true work of art. Wayne is survived by his wife, Merry; 2 daughters, Susan Binch, and Sharon (Scott) Kettle; a son, Joe Binch; a grandAnne Katherine daughter, Kettle; a sister, Maxine (Paul) Steele; and a nephew, Mark (Cris) Steele.
