Pioneer kickers split week's games Dean Von Memmott Sports Correspondent The Lehi Pioneers split two Region 10 girls' soccer matches last week. In a Sept. 14 game at home, Lehi lost 1 to the Park City Miners. Lehi kicked aside that loss and shot back to win 2 on the Uintah Utes' Vernal field Sept. 16. Lehi Coach Brett Bergholm said, "We had expected to beat Park City. We had studied them in several video tapes of past games. We took away their offense and shut down their midfielders. "Five minutes before the half, they scored their first goal on a long shot. We had six balls within 12 yards of the goal. We weren't able to finish our shots, By 2-- 3-- though. Their goalie kept making saves. "In the middle of the second half, they scored their second goal on another long shot. Lynnsey Asay, our goalie, shut them down after that. "We came back in the next minute and scored a goal on a kick by Krissa Yates. There were still 15 minutes left in the them, but game. Bergholm said, "They scored their first goal when we mis-- " ot Harriers finish third Dean Von Memmott The Lehi Pioneers finished y meet hosted third in a Memorial by the Judge Bulldogs Sept. 15. Lehi went on to finish its week by competing against bigger schools at the Murray Invitational Sept. 18. Held at Salt Lake City's hilly Cottonwood Park, the Sept. 15 meet saw Lehi competing against runners from Judge Memorial, Wasatch, Hilkrest, and Woods Cross. Peter Lehi Coach Edmondson said, "There is always obstacles in these races. Our concern is to see our kids do their best in races. We saw a lot of kids do well today. "Megann Dastrup did in what was her second race. All the girls showed improvement. Sarah Davis cut off two minutes from her time. The things we're doing here will help us get ready for region." As usual, the Dorton brothers stood out in the boys' run. Matt Dorton took sixth, Jake Dorton seventh, Jared Haws 12th, Ryan Frazier 13th, Rosenlof 22nd, Brandon Brandon Laughlin 30th, Chris Babock 32nd, Brad Henrie 39th, and Jake Bailey 40th. At the Murray Invitational, where dozens of teams and hundreds of runners compete, Lehi took 22nd in the varsity boys' division. The Pioneers didn't field a full team in the varsity girls' race. In the varsity boys' race, Brandon McLaughlin was 67th, Jared Haws took 82nd, Frazier 104th, Dan Baum 177th, Levi Jones 187th, and Brad Henrie 195th. Three Pioneers competed in the varsity girls' run. During it, Cummings was 33rd, Elmer 82nd, and Dastrup 113th. e In the boys' took 91st Tim Asay run, and Spence Larsen 110th.
