Show Lehi Free Press New Utah! - Wednesday, September 22, 1999 - Page 8 Sports Lehi bows to Miners "IWi Pioneers shut out Uintah ft ,1 Dean Von Memmott Sports Correspondent The Lehi Pioneers' girls' tennis team picked up one win but posted two losses recently. On Sept. 7, the Pioneers shut out Uintah 0 in a team match at home. Lehi lost 1 on the Manti Templars' court Sept. 8. The Pioneers closed out their at home to week with losing the Judge Memorial Bulldogs on Sept. 9. The Pioneers' No. 1 singles player, Emily Pugh, started a five-wi-n streak for them in their match against the Utes. She defeated Maritta Batty By touchdown on the night. Park City scored first on a field goal in the first quarter. The Miners improved their on a lead at pass in the sectouchdown for a play ond quarter. The PAT failed. Sam Trulock connected a touchdown pass to Dave Christofferson shortly before halftime to put the Pioneers within after Andy Grimley kicked the PAT. Rogers scored a touchdown to give the Miners a 15-- 7 lead, but the Pioneers weren't done. In fact, they played their best in the fourth quarter, when Trulock answered the touchdown call with a B.J. Benson. to pass Lehi tried for a conversion and the tie, but the pass during the play failed. Lehi's last chance for victory ended when a Park City player picked off a Trulock pass on their final possession. The Pioneers are on the road again next week, when they visit Uintah. Game time is set Dean Von Memmott Sports Correspondent The Lehi Pioneers' three-gam- e winning streak ended in 3 a loss on the Park City Miners' football field Sept. 18 Lehi Coach Steve Clements said, "We didn't show up mentally; we didn't play well. I don't think they beat us. We just lost." Even though the night went down as a bad one for the Pioneers, Clements pointed out that David Christofferson kept it from being worse for the Pioneers. The coach said, "David Christoffersonn made some touchdown saving tackles which would not have been made had he not been out on the field.'' Clements said, "The nice thing about it is that we'll get another chance to win when we go out to Uintah this week. The kids aren't going to give up. The coaches won't be giving up on them."
