Following the home match, the Pioneers plan to travel to Carbon for a tournament featuring some of the strongest teams outside 3A. Included in the eight-tealineup are teams from Orem, Jordan, Payson, all perennial powerhouses, as well as Carbon, Emery, Woods Cross and 2A Gunnison. At Delta last week Tuesday, the Pioneers defeated an improved Snow Canyon squad, then dropped close duals to Delta, and to By d two-da- y m 36-3- 31-4- Cedar City, This was with a weakened team that was missing some varsity wrestlers who were injured or on vacation. The tourney helped Gavin take a good look at his charges as they came out second in team scores. Seven LHS grapplers had winning records at the end of the grueling day. Kevin Jeffrey, a senior at 135 pounds, was totally dominating as he won a "technical" mardecision with a gin and then followed that with two "majors," decisions by eight or more points. Merrill Delimont, who wrestled the varsity spot at 145 away from veteran Tyler Nelson, went 2 in the "toughest classification of the tournament," according to Gavin. Coach Gavin was pleased with the performances of his charges, especially considering the fact that this was not their strongest lineup. With the return of Coby and Drew Wilson to this week's roster, Gavin expects to put on a good show for the home fans and then gain a lot of valuable experience and respect at Carbon this weekend.
